Riot Games is an American video game developer founded in 2006 that built League of Legends, the free-to-play team battle game that became one of the most played titles in the world and the foundation of modern esports. It has since released the tactical shooter Valorant, the card game Legends of Runeterra, the mobile title Wild Rift and the animated series Arcane, all set in the same fictional universe, and it operates the professional leagues around its games directly rather than licensing them out. Headquartered in Los Angeles and wholly owned by Tencent, it is unusual for running a small number of titles as very long-lived services.

Riot Games is looking for a Manager of Community Management to lead the team responsible for building and supporting Riftbound’s global player community.

As the Manager of Community Management for Riftbound, you will set the product’s community strategy and lead its execution across launches, product releases, organized play, live events, and evergreen engagement. You will manage and develop a team of community professionals, establish clear operating practices, and ensure player perspectives inform publishing and product decisions.

You will work closely with Brand, Creative, Social, Influencer, PR, Organized Play, Product teams, and partners to deliver coordinated, player-first experiences. You will also partner with regional teams to support locally relevant community strategies and maintain alignment across global programs.

You will report to the Editor-in-Chief, Riftbound Publishing team.

Responsibilities

Community Strategy

  • Set and lead Riftbound’s global community strategy in support of product and publishing goals.
  • Develop programs that strengthen player acquisition, onboarding, engagement, advocacy, and long-term community health.
  • Ensure community priorities are integrated into product launches, organized play, retail moments, campaigns, and live events.
  • Establish clear goals, operating plans, and success measures for Riftbound community initiatives.
  • Identify emerging player needs, community risks, opportunities, and guide the team’s response.
  • Balance the needs of competitive players, collectors, casual players, hobby communities, and new TCG audiences.

Team Leadership

  • Manage, coach, and develop a team of community managers.
  • Set clear priorities, responsibilities, and performance expectations for the team.
  • Provide regular feedback and support career and craft development.
  • Improve community operating processes, tools, documentation, and ways of working.
  • Allocate team capacity across launches, campaigns, community programs, and emerging issues.
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and player-focused team environment.

Player Voice and Communications

  • Serve as the senior community representative for Riftbound in product and publishing planning.
  • Ensure player sentiment, feedback, and community insights inform product development and business decisions.
  • Oversee player-facing communications across articles, social content, community channels, event messaging, and product updates.
  • Establish communication standards that are clear, authentic, culturally aware, and consistent with Riftbound’s voice.
  • Lead community response and escalation planning for sensitive or fast-moving issues.
  • Partner with Product, PR, Player Support, and regional teams to deliver coordinated communications.

Community Programs

  • Oversee community programs across digital platforms, organized play, hobby stores, live events, and creator ecosystems.
  • Guide the development of community activations that build meaningful relationships between players and Riot.
  • Partner with Organized Play and Commercial teams to connect digital engagement with retail and in-person play.
  • Develop scalable programs, toolkits, and guidance that regional teams can adapt for local audiences.
  • Evaluate program effectiveness using participation, sentiment, engagement, and community-health indicators.
  • Use performance insights and player feedback to improve future programs.

Cross-Functional and Regional Leadership

  • Partner with Brand, Creative, Influencer, Social, PR, Events, Organized Play, Product teams, and Partners.
  • Align stakeholders around community priorities, player needs, messaging, and execution plans.
  • Support regional community teams with strategic guidance, program frameworks, and escalation management.
  • Represent Riftbound within Riot’s broader Player Community leadership group.
  • Manage relationships with agencies, vendors, moderators, and community partners.
  • Share learnings and best practices that improve community work across Riot.

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in community management, publishing, communications, social media, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience directly managing and developing employees.
  • Experience setting and leading community strategy for a game, entertainment product, consumer brand, or hobby ecosystem.
  • Experience managing multiple community programs, campaigns, or live-service workstreams.
  • Strong understanding of player communities, digital platforms, community communications, and engagement practices.
  • Experience representing player needs to product, marketing, and leadership teams.
  • Experience managing sensitive community issues and cross-functional escalations.
  • Strong written, verbal, and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Experience establishing goals, operating processes, and performance measures.
  • Ability to operate independently and lead through ambiguity.

Desired Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Riftbound: the League of Legends trading card game.
  • Experience with other trading card games, tabletop games, collectibles, organized play, or hobby entertainment.
  • Knowledge of TCG player communities, retailers, tournament organizers, judges, creators, and collectors.
  • Experience launching a new game, product, or community ecosystem.
  • Experience leading community programs across multiple regions.
  • Familiarity with social listening, sentiment analysis, community-health measurement, and audience insights.
  • Experience working with physical products, retail partners, or live events.
  • Personal interest in trading card games and player communities.
