We’re making remarkable progress and growing fast. \nAbout the role \nAs a QEC Researcher (Simulation Development) at Riverlane, you will work on the development and productization of classical simulation techniques for fault-tolerant quantum computing and quantum error correction.\nThe team brings together mathematicians, physicists, and chemists, and works closely with leading researchers in quantum algorithms and QEC. A core part of the role is researching, developing, and documenting internal tooling to support the team for estimating quantities of interest in non-Clifford protocols.\nThis includes working with team members to design requirements for new capabilities for non-Clifford operations, investigating the accuracy, complexity, and limitations of simulation approximations, implementing high-performance computing solutions using best coding practices, and enabling large-scale studies non-Clifford QEC protocols and decoder performance.\nYour work may include submitting novel simulator science to journals, working with internal and external partners on new software capabilities, working with open-source collaborators on multiple community simulation tools, and managing large numeric simulations.\nYou’ll collaborate closely with other QEC teams at Riverlane, including those working on logical operations, decoding and QEC code design across different qubit platforms.\nWhat you will do \nDevelop and improve simulation tools for fault-tolerant quantum computing and quantum error correction.\nResearch and recreate efficient simulation techniques for Clifford and non-Clifford quantum circuits.\nMaintain good coding standards and implement new features across multiple repositories for non-Clifford simulation.\nEngage in academic research activities, including reading and reviewing literature, participating in journal clubs, writing papers, and presenting work at conferences.\nWrite code to test scientific ideas and contribute to software-focused research outputs and products.\nLead or contribute to projects involving small, cross-disciplinary teams.\nCollaborate with other teams across Riverlane to integrate your work with related research areas.\nBuild and maintain relationships with partners and collaborators in industry and academia.\nWhat we need \nA PhD with strong academic performance in a mathematically focused discipline, such as physics, theoretical chemistry, mathematics, or computer science.\nExperience working with and contributing to legacy code bases and on large coding projects, especially with professional development experience.\nCuriosity and motivation to learn new technical topics and apply your skills across quantum error correction and quantum algorithms.\nThe ability to work both independently and collaboratively, sharing progress clearly with colleagues, contributing to technical discussions and problem solving.\nStrong written and verbal communication skills.\nEven better if you have…\nExperience working on quantum simulations, especially stabilizer tableau simulations and related techniques. \nExperience designing and running numerical simulations. \nExperience conducting research in quantum error correction, either in academia or industry. \nWhat can you expect from us \nA comprehensive benefits package that includes an annual bonus plan, private medical insurance, life insurance, and a contributory pension scheme \nEquity, so that our team can share in the long-term success of Riverlane \n28 days annual leave, plus bank holidays and enhanced family leave \nA diverse work environment that brings together experts in many fields (including software and hardware development, quantum information theory, physics and maths) and over 20 different nationalities \nA learning environment that encourages individual, team and company growth and development, including a regular programme of learning events and training and conference budgets \nHow to apply \nPlease upload a CV and covering letter by clicking 'Apply'.
