In less than 3 years, we've built a T500 firm in the US, combining corporate and personal income tax, sales tax, R&D credits, and bookkeeping into a single, all-inclusive experience that eliminates the worst parts of tax season for real businesses and the people who run them.\nOur platform is designed to feel invisible: it guides clients through their tax to-dos, automates the drudgery for preparers, and gets out of the way when it's not needed. We measure success in time saved and returns completed, not vanity usage metrics. We run Rivet (the firm) on Rivet (the platform) because owning the stack makes it possible to deeply embed AI into every step of our workflows, far more than our competition will ever be able to relying on third-party/off-the-shelf tooling.\nOur team of 75 supports more than 1,300 clients, including some of the most innovative companies in the US — Cursor, Cognition, and ModRetro — and their executives, investors, and employees.\nAnd while we may have just gotten started a little over two years ago, this isn't our first rodeo:\n\nNick Abouzeid (cofounder & CEO) comes from Ramp, where he ran three of their Growth teams from $100M → $600M in ARR\n\nKyle Christenson (cofounder & Head of Tax) comes from the IRS, where he spent six years as an auditor before leaving to start his own firm over a decade ago\n\nWe're well-funded, growing quickly, and sustainable. We've raised over $7M to date, from investors like XYZ Ventures, Susa Ventures, Haystack Ventures, and 40+ executives from Ramp, Anduril, Physical Intelligence, & more.\nWhy this role is differentTax software fails quietly. A number lands in the wrong box, nobody notices until a notice arrives, and by then it's a client's problem. The backend is where we decide that doesn't happen.\n\nOwnership from first commit to production. Engineers design, build, ship, and maintain their work — no handoffs, no middle-management mazes.\n\nDecisions happen at the edge. Engineers talk to clients and tax preparers directly. We optimize for speed and context, not committee consensus.\n\nClear is kind. We surface problems early, talk about tradeoffs openly, and don't sugarcoat. We're kind by being honest, not by being vague.\n\nPragmatic stacks. We pick tools that solve real problems. If it doesn't help us ship faster, safer, or better, we don't use it.\n\nSkin in the game. We ship things we'd be proud to put our name on — and if something breaks, we own it and fix it fast.\n\nOur stackSix engineers today, five languages. Our platform and infrastructure are Go end to end:\n\nPlatform: Go, as a modular monolith — Connect RPC over protobuf, Go Fx for wiring, sqlc and goose against Postgres, River Pro for background jobs, Watermill for pub-sub over RabbitMQ.\n\nFrontend: React and TanStack, deployed to Cloudflare Workers.\n\nAI and eval: Python, in their own repos — ModelBridge (a gRPC service for AI building blocks) and TaxBench, our internal eval suite.\n\nLegacy integration: a C# Windows agent that drives Drake, one of the tax platforms our industry never built APIs for.\n\nInfrastructure: AWS — ECS Fargate, Amazon MQ, AMP, Loki, Tempo — provisioned by Pulumi, itself written in Go.\n\nAround the edges: Buildkite for CI, OpenTelemetry throughout, Doppler for secrets, Linear for tracking.\n\nWhat you'll do\nOwn modules in the Go monolith end to end — schema and migrations through Connect RPC surface, including the background jobs and pub-sub flows behind them.\n\nAutomate systems nobody meant to be automated. Our industry never built APIs. We drive a desktop tax platform through a C# agent, parse filings that arrive as scanned paper, and reconcile ledgers that disagree with each other. This is most of the interesting work.\n\nPut AI on the critical path. Wire ModelBridge into real workflows and hold it to TaxBench, our eval suite — we treat eval as an asset, not a side project. A model that's right 95% of the time is a design problem, not a launch.\n\nOwn what you ship in production. Tracing, alerting, on-call, and the load curve of a firm whose traffic triples in March. April 15th doesn't move.\n\nWork directly with preparers. The people who'll catch your bug are on Slack, and they'll tell you exactly what happened.\n\nWe're fully distributed — but if you want an office, we'll help you find one through our investor network.\nWhat makes you a fit\n4+ years building backend systems, including 2+ years writing Go in production\n\nReal Postgres depth — schema design, migrations against live data, and knowing why a query got slow\n\nHave built and operated asynchronous systems: background jobs, queues, retries, and the failure modes that come with them\n\nBias toward correctness in a domain where a wrong number has consequences, and the judgment to know when it doesn't\n\nComfortable operating in a fast-changing, early-stage environment\n\nExcellent verbal and written communication skills\n\nNice to haves\nConnect RPC, gRPC, or protobuf-first API design\n\nEvent-driven architectures on RabbitMQ, Kafka, or similar\n\nInfrastructure as code — Pulumi, Terraform, or CDK — and comfort owning your own deploys\n\nShipped LLM systems into production paths and evaluated them properly, not as prototypes\n\nBuilt tax-adjacent software — fund administration, payroll, accounting platforms, filing systems\n\nEnjoy getting creative with APIs and systems that were never meant to be automated\n\nWhat we offer\nBenefits and meaningful equity\n\nA fully remote team, plus twice-yearly company offsites\n\nA well-funded, fast-moving environment with minimal layers of management\n\nA world-class client base that values your time and pays for the premium experience\n\nProblems that are unusual — nobody else is writing daemons against 1990s tax software to feed a modern agent stack\n\nWe encourage you to apply even if you don't meet every qualification. Strong candidates rarely check every box.\nOriginally posted on Himalayas","description_format":"text","description_chars":5927,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":null,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":null,"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":["Equity"],"hiring_locations":[{"name":"United States","iso":"US","kind":"country"}],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Festivals"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-10-16T23:28:15Z"}],"visa":[],"liveness":{"score":90,"band":"hot","label":"Hiring now","p_open":1,"p_active":0.903,"p_room":1,"age_days":4,"expected_fill_days":27,"reasons":["seen:4","velocity","win:early"],"computed_at":"2026-10-21T05:46:15Z"},"pay":null,"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/rivet-back-end-engineer-go-or-similar","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/rivet-back-end-engineer-go-or-similar.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-21T14:21:22Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"crawler_verified","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":20418,"day_limit":null,"remaining_today":null,"minute_limit":300,"resets_at":"2026-10-22T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":2801187},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=2801187"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Frivet-back-end-engineer-go-or-similar"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Frivet-back-end-engineer-go-or-similar"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Frivet-back-end-engineer-go-or-similar"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/rivet-back-end-engineer-go-or-similar\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Frivet-back-end-engineer-go-or-similar"}]}
