This position owns the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of accounting for the Company’s owned and leased properties, including property tax payments, intercompany and third-party lease billings, and property setup and maintenance. Working closely with management, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and operations teams, the Property Accountant ensures records are complete, current, well organized, and decision-ready.\nThe ideal candidate brings strong accounting expertise, sound judgment, intellectual curiosity, and a relentless focus on continuous improvement. This individual takes ownership, solves complex problems, builds productive cross-functional partnerships, and proactively identifies ways to streamline processes, leverage technology, and strengthen the quality and reliability of financial reporting.\nAs we build a modern, high-performing Finance organization, this role offers meaningful visibility across Accounting and Finance, direct involvement in strategic initiatives, and a clear path to expanded responsibility and professional growth. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to influence how work gets done and contribute to lasting improvements across the organization.\nKey Responsibilities\nMaintain property records, including property setup, termination, and detail updates, within the property management system\n\nProcess transactions for monthly property tax payments, intercompany lease billings, third party lease billings in property management software\n\nReview accounts payable and accounts receivable activity, tenant billings, cash receipts, and delinquency reporting.\n\nCoordinate with managers, leasing teams, vendors, lenders, and internal departments to resolve accounting issues.\n\nPrepare schedules and documentation for month-end reporting, audits and tax filings\n\nRecord and review journal entries, accruals, and other recurring transactions.\n\nReconcile balance-sheet/income statement accounts, security deposits, and intercompany balances.\n\nEnsure compliance with company policies, internal controls, lease requirements, and applicable accounting standards.\n\nIdentify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting accuracy, and close-cycle efficiency.\n\nQualifications\nRequired\nBachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.\n\nTwo or more years of accounting experience; property accounting or real estate experience is strongly preferred.\n\nWorking knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and financial reporting.\n\nProficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting or property-management software.\n\nStrong reconciliation, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.\n\nAbility to manage multiple deadlines and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment.\n\nClear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across functions.\n\nPreferred\nExperience with commercial, residential, industrial, or mixed-use property portfolios.\n\nExperience with property-management accounting systems and advanced Excel functions.\n\nKnowledge of lease accounting, operating expense recoveries, and real estate reporting requirements.\n\nCore Competencies\nStrong technical accounting knowledge.\nAnalytical thinking and intellectual curiosity.\nInitiative, ownership, and accountability.\nSound judgment and attention to detail.\nContinuous improvement and technology-oriented mindset.\nStrong communication and relationship-building skills.\nCollaborative, team-first approach.\nCommitment to continuous learning and professional development.\nAbility and desire to assume broader responsibilities over time.\nBENEFITS: R+L Carriers offers an excellent compensation and comprehensive benefits package that includes Medical/Dental/Vision Insurance, 401(k) Retirement Plan with company matching contributions, Paid Vacation & Holidays, and vacation lodging at our exclusive employee resorts in Daytona Beach, FL, Big Bear Lake, CA, Pigeon Forge, TN, and Ocean Isle Beach, NC.\nAbout Us: R+L Carriers is a family owned, privately held transportation company founded in 1965.
