In this role, you’ll contribute to the design and development of mechanical systems and components for electrical power distribution equipment, including switchgear, circuit breaker retrofits/retrofills, segregated and non-segregated phase bus, and iso-phase bus (IPB) systems. This position is ideal for an early-career engineer eager to learn, grow, and make an impact in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. Working closely with senior engineers, you’ll assist in developing detailed 3D models, drawings, and specifications that ensure safety, reliability, and manufacturability.\nWhat You’ll Do:\nProvide mechanical design and analysis for electrical power system components\nDevelop and contribute to specifications for electrical and substation equipment, including switchgear, transformers, circuit breakers, bus systems, and motor control centers\nCreate 3D models and detailed drawings for mechanical project components like sheet metal, insulation, and busbars\nPrepare drawing packages and installation plans for equipment replacement, repairs, upgrades, and modifications\nCoordinate designs with customers, manufacturing, and field teams to optimize cost, constructability, and installation\nSpecify and procure hardware and specialty components from vendors\nReview site drawings, documentation, and photos to recommend design improvements\nEnsure designs meet industry standards, ratings, and customer specifications, including materials, clearances, BIL ratings, and busbar sizing\nCollaborate with electrical engineers to define responsibilities and scope between teams\nTravel to jobsites to gather data, support installation, and assist with commissioning\nProvide technical expertise and field support during installation and troubleshooting\nMaintain awareness of electrical hazards and follow safe work practices around energized equipment\nThe Experience We’re Looking For:\nPrevious work experience or an internship in mechanical engineering\n1-3 years experience\nFamiliarity between electrical systems and equipment\nFamiliarity with Microsoft Excel for technical tables and Microsoft Word\nPractical knowledge of material science and metallurgy\nStrong collaboration and communication skills for working with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders\nOrganized and able to manage multiple tasks while meeting deadlines with guidance\nSelf-driven and able to work independently with minimal supervision\nAdditional Requirements:\nWillingness to travel up to 15% across the U.S. \nValid driver’s license with a safe driving record\nMust successfully complete a background check and pre-employment/random drug tests\nAvailable for occasional extended or irregular hours, including weekends and holidays\nCapable of sitting at a computer for extended periods, moving within an office environment, and lifting up to 20 pounds\nProficient in speaking, hearing, reading, and typing in English for safe and effective communication\nBonus Points for:\nBachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field\nPrevious experience within the power industry or in a part fabrication environment is preferred\nEngineer-In-Training (EIT) certification\nExperience with Solidworks, Inventor, AutoCAD Mechanical or other modeling tools\nWhy Join RMS Energy:\nWe’re not just another power services company.
