You’ll also support design projects, lead field crews, and contribute to a high-performing, safety-first culture that powers the grid.\nWhat You’ll Do:\nLead testing and commissioning for substation protection and control systems, including electromechanical, solid-state, and microprocessor relays\nPerform relay calibration, voltage and current input verification, functional testing, and SCADA metering validation\nCommission pilot channel equipment such as power line carrier, transfer trip, fiber optics, CVTs, line tuners, and line traps\nTroubleshoot and repair protection and control systems in existing substations\nPerform wiring checks, site walks, and commissioning reviews for design upgrade projects\nInterpret and apply three-phase power system theory and protection & control schemes\nRead and follow detailed wiring diagrams, schematics, and electrical drawings\nOperate and interpret test equipment, meters, and diagnostic tools with accuracy\nDocument all test data, maintenance activities, and field repairs in detailed reports\nSupervise field crews, delegate tasks, and ensure safety, quality, and project alignment\nPromote and enforce strict adherence to company and industry safety standards\nTrain and mentor junior engineers and technicians\nFollow strict safety and PPE usage protocols due to noise, electrical hazards, and elevated work areas\nUse test equipment software and hand tools to support field work effectively\nThe Experience We’re Looking For:\n8+ years of hands-on experience with commissioning, relay testing, panel checkout, and troubleshooting\n5+ years leading system integration projects and coordinating relay settings\nStrong knowledge of SCADA, SER/Fault Data, and integration/automation testing\nFamiliarity with power system design, protection & control schemes, and substation operations\nStrong ability to interpret wiring diagrams and schematics\nAdvanced troubleshooting skills and the ability to manage multiple project deadlines\nExperience using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) for reporting and communication\nAdditional Requirements:\nBachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field\nWillingness to travel up to 70% across the continental U.S.\nValid driver’s license with a clean driving record\nMust pass a pre-employment background check and drug/alcohol screening\nLegally authorized to work in the United States\nAvailable for extended and irregular hours, including weekends and holidays\nMust be able to lift 50+ lbs., work at heights (100+ ft), in confined spaces, and outdoors in all weather\nRequires good vision, hearing, and English proficiency for safe, effective communication in noisy environments\nBonus Points for:\nDirect experience in commissioning new substations and supporting relay upgrades\nStrong background in SCADA/fault integration and automation projects\nDemonstrated leadership on multi-crew job sites or large utility installations\nTWIC card \nNETA certification or equivalent credentials\nWhy Join RMS Energy:\nWe’re not just another power services company.
