This role is ideal for an experienced engineer with a strong background in substation design, Protection & Control (P&C), and customer-facing project execution. You'll serve as both the technical lead and primary customer contact, managing projects from initial concept through final delivery while ensuring high-quality engineering solutions.\nWhat You’ll Do:\nDesign and support brownfield substation upgrades and modernization projects\nDevelop Protection & Control (P&C) designs for transmission and distribution substations\nSupport relay replacements, breaker replacements/changouts, RTU replacements, control system upgrades, and ground grid modifications\nUpdate and revise existing electrical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, and documentation to reflect system modifications\nServe as a primary engineering contact for assigned customers, providing technical support and maintaining effective communication throughout project execution\nPrepare project scopes, engineering estimates, schedules, and technical deliverables\nParticipate in customer meetings and provide engineering updates throughout the project lifecycle\nCoordinate with internal engineering, drafting, procurement, and field teams to support successful project execution\nReview engineering deliverables for technical accuracy and compliance with applicable codes, industry standards, and customer specifications\nSupport field activities, commissioning, troubleshooting, and technical issue resolution as needed\nCollaborate with field teams and other engineering disciplines to ensure quality, efficiency, and customer satisfaction\nFollow all safety procedures and standards while working around energized electrical equipment\nThe Experience We’re Looking For:\n4-5+ years of experience in electrical engineering or related roles with demonstrated design and field experience\nProtection & Control (P&C) design experience\nPhysical substation design experience\nSkilled in power system modeling and relay design using tools like SKM PowerTools, ETAP, EasyPower, and AutoCAD\nProficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) for documentation and reporting\nExperience with relay replacements, breaker replacements, RTU replacements, and control system modernization\nStrong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities\nExcellent verbal and written communication skills for technical documentation and stakeholder engagement\nSelf-starter who works well independently with minimal supervision\nAdditional Requirements:\nBachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent practical experience\nValid and current driver’s license \nMust successfully complete a background check and pre-employment/random drug tests\nWilling and able to travel frequently (15-20%), including overnight stays\nAbility to work remotely and stay self-directed in day-to-day responsibilities\nBonus Points for:\nNETA Level 2-4, EIT/FE, or PE license preferred\nPrevious experience working with utilities, engineering consulting firms, service companies or substation design firms\nStrong ability to interface between engineering and field service teams\nExperience working near energized electrical systems and following proper safety protocol\nWhy Join RMS Energy:\nWe’re not just another power services company.
