The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, analysis, specification, testing, commissioning, and ongoing technical support of protection and control systems for electrical power systems.\nThe ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience with commercial power generation facilities, substations, transmission and distribution systems, and a strong understanding of NERC reliability standards and compliance requirements. This role will support the design and operation of electrical protection and control systems while ensuring compliance with applicable industry standards, utility requirements, and regulatory obligations.\nWhat You’ll Do:\nDesign and develop protection and control systems for commercial power plants, generating stations, substations, transmission and distribution systems, and industrial electrical facilities.\nDevelop and maintain protection philosophies, relay settings, coordination studies, and protection schemes for generation and power delivery systems.\nPerform power system studies\nDevelop and review protection and control engineering drawings\nSelect and specify protective relays, instrument transformers, control equipment, communication devices, and associated electrical equipment.\nDevelop and review relay logic, control logic, interlocking, breaker failure, synchronizing, transfer trip, and other protection schemes.\nSupport protection and control systems for generators, transformers, switchgear, transmission lines, motors, buses, and auxiliary electrical systems within commercial power plants.\nDevelop and review generator protection schemes, including differential, overcurrent, voltage, frequency\nThe Experience We’re Looking For:\n7+ years experience\nExperience with transmission, distribution, or generation protection systems.\nExperience with substation automation and SCADA systems.\nExperience with protection and power system analysis software such as ETAP, SKM Power*Tools, EasyPower, PSS®E, ASPEN OneLiner, or equivalent.\nKnowledge of utility protection standards and practices.\nExperience working on medium-, high-, and extra-high-voltage electrical systems.\nAdditional Requirements:\nPE license required\nBachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering\nWillingness to travel up to 25% across the continental U.S. as needed\nValid U.S. driver’s license with a clean driving record\nMust successfully complete a background check and pre-employment/random drug tests\nRequires good vision, hearing, and English proficiency for safe, effective communication in noisy environments\nBonus Points for:\nMaster's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field \nExperience with renewables, battery storage, and DER integration\nKnowledge of utility-specific relay philosophies and design review procedures\nHands-on involvement in FAT, commissioning, or relay testing\n**We welcome applications from qualified candidates, including those who may require visa sponsorship to work in the United States.**\nWhy Join RMS Energy:\nWe’re not just another power services company.
