This role creates 3D models, engineering drawings, and technical documentation while collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure products are manufacturable, cost-effective, and meet performance objectives. The Design Engineer supports products throughout the development lifecycle, working closely with customers and internal stakeholders to deliver innovative engineering solutions.\nWhat You'll Own\nDesign and development of composite components, assemblies, tooling, and fixtures\nCreation and maintenance of 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, and technical documentation\nProduct performance, manufacturability, and design optimization\nCross-functional engineering collaboration from concept through production\nCustomer technical support and design reviews\nEssential Functions\nProduct Design & Engineering\nDesign composite components, assemblies, molds, tooling, and fixtures using SolidWorks.\nDevelop production-ready CAD models, engineering drawings, and supporting documentation.\nApply engineering principles to optimize product performance, manufacturability, weight, cost, and quality.\nPerform basic structural analyses to evaluate stresses, stiffness, and deflection.\nSelect appropriate composite materials and manufacturing processes to meet product requirements.\nProduct Development & Collaboration\nPartner with Program Management, Manufacturing Engineering, Production, and Quality throughout the product\nlifecycle.\nCollaborate with structural, RF, electro-optical, and manufacturing engineers on integrated development programs.\nParticipate in design reviews, resolve technical issues, and support engineering changes during production.\nPresent technical solutions to customers and evaluate design tradeoffs involving performance, manufacturability, cost, and weight.\nContinuous Improvement\nIdentify opportunities to improve product quality, manufacturability, and engineering efficiency.\nSupport standardization of engineering practices, documentation, and design processes.\nContribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance product performance and manufacturing success.\nNon-Essential Functions\nPerform other duties as assigned.\nWhat You Bring:\nBachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline.\n2+ years of design experience, preferably in composites, aerospace, or advanced manufacturing.\nExperience designing products from concept through production.\nProficiency with SolidWorks and 3D CAD modeling.\nKnowledge of composite materials, manufacturing processes, and structural design principles.\nFamiliarity with prepreg, wet layup, infusion, fabrics, and fibers.\nUnderstanding of engineering drawings, GD&T, and basic structural analysis.\nExperience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).\nStrong analytical and problem-solving skills.\nExcellent communication and presentation abilities.\nAbility to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary engineering teams and interface directly with customers.\nStrong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.\nAbility to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance is preferred.\nCompensation & Benefits\nSalary Range: $85,000 - $110,000 (based on experience and skillset)\n100% Employer-Paid Medical & Dental\nAnnual Bonus Program\n401(k) with 5% Match\nEmployee Stock Option Program\n9/80 Work Schedule (every other Friday off)\nPaid Holidays + Generous PTO \n$2,500 Tuition Reimbursement\nEqual Opportunity Employer\nRock West Composites is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
