We're 200+ people building a\nproduct that services teams love, and we're just getting started.\nWhat will you do?\nAs a Customer Engineer, you'll be the hands-on technical engine behind how our customers\nconnect Rocketlane to the rest of their tech stack. Working alongside FDEs, implementation\nteams, and Product Managers, you'll spend your time understanding a customer's tools,\nplatforms, and data, and then building the pipelines and integrations that make everything\ntalk to each other.\nThis is a Customer Engineering role where you won't be expected to run enterprise accounts\nsolo on day one. Instead, you'll join client calls, learn to read a customer's technology\necosystem quickly, and take ownership of well-scoped engineering work: data models,\nintegrations, scripts, and connectors. Over time, as your judgment and customer instincts\ngrow, you'll take on bigger pieces of the deployment and start feeding what you learn in the\nfield back into the product.\nYou don't need prior work experience to be great at this role. If your final-year project, a\nhackathon build, or a personal side project involved wiring systems together, wrangling\nmessy data, or building something people actually used - that's exactly the muscle this role\nneeds. If you love writing code and being close to the customer, and \"pure backend\nengineer\" feels too far from the people using what you build, this role is for you.What you'll be responsible for\nData engineering across the customer's stack\nBuild and maintain data pipelines and integrations that connect Rocketlane with the\ntools our customers already use (CRM, HRMS, ERP, finance tools, data warehouses,\ninternal APIs).\nModel and shape messy, real-world customer data so it's clean and usable in\nproduction.\nWrite Python scripts and small utilities to move, transform, and validate data between\nsystems.\nUnderstanding the customer's technology ecosystem\nLearn how each customer's platforms, tools, and data fit together, and translate that\ninto a clear picture the team can build against.\nJoin technical discovery and working sessions with senior FDEs - listening, asking\nsharp questions, and gradually taking on more of the conversation.\nHands-on engineering with AI\nWork with LLMs to build customer-specific automations: from simple prompt-driven\nscripts to connecting Nitro agents to customer data.\nDebug integration and data issues, do root-cause analysis, and ship fixes quickly -\nwith support from senior team members while you're ramping up.\nContributing back to the product\nSurface recurring customer patterns, edge cases, and gaps to Product and\nEngineering.\nHelp build reusable templates, connectors, and internal tooling so each deployment\nmakes the next one faster.\nMust-have skills\n0-3 years of software development experience, or strong, demonstrable\nproject experience (final-year projects, internships, hackathons, or open-source\nwork) - comfortable writing clean Python.\nSolid grasp of data structures, data modeling, and databases - coursework or\nproject-level SQL and an understanding of how data flows between systems is\nenough.\nComfortable reading and working with REST APIs: testing endpoints, understanding\nauth, and wiring up integrations - even if this was only done in a class project or\npersonal build.\nSome hands-on exposure to LLMs: prompting, calling model APIs, or building small\nAI-powered tools - a weekend project counts.\nGenuine interest in the customer side: the confidence to be on client calls, ask good\nquestions, and explain technical things clearly - think: explaining your project to a\nprofessor outside your specialization, or to judges at a hackathon.\nA bias toward action - your project history should show you dug into problems on\nyour own rather than only completing assigned coursework.\nGood-to-have skills\nExperience with ETL / data pipeline tools or integration platforms (Make, Workato,\nBoomi, or similar) - academic or self-taught exposure counts.\nFamiliarity with AI-assisted dev tools (Cursor, Claude Code, Replit, etc.).\nExposure to cloud (AWS/GCP), Postman, Docker, or webhooks - free-tier or\npersonal-project experience is fine.\nAny internship, coursework, or project experience in a customer-facing or B2B SaaS\nsetting.\nA GitHub, portfolio, or demo link for your best project -
