In this high-impact individual contributor role, you’ll combine deep Oracle expertise with a pragmatic approach to modernization, shaping architecture and technical standards while advancing performance, reliability, security, automation, observability, resiliency, and cloud adoption. You will collaborate with our Product Reliability and Security Engineering, Product, and Product Engineering teams, along with our managed services partner, to ensure ROI’s database platforms remain secure, scalable, and prepared for the future.\nWho Thrives Here\nYou take ownership. You document, automate, teach, and build processes that make the entire organization stronger.\nResponsibilities\nDatabase Strategy & Architecture\nSet database architecture standards and guide technical decisions across ROI’s products and platforms. \nOwn the multi-year roadmap for capacity, technical debt, and database modernization. \nEvaluate database technologies and cloud services based on reliability, scalability, security, and cost. \nPerformance, Reliability & Resiliency\nProvide senior technical ownership and escalation support for Oracle production and non-production environments. \nLead performance tuning, SQL optimization, capacity planning, and troubleshooting with developers. \nStrengthen monitoring, backup, recovery, high availability, and disaster-recovery practices. \nLead root-cause analysis for significant incidents and participate in a shared on-call rotation. \nDatabase Standards & Governance\nDefine practical standards for database architecture, design, SQL development, documentation, and operations. \nReview significant schema changes, migrations, procedural objects, and database designs. \nPartner with engineering teams to improve database quality and performance throughout the development lifecycle. \nDatabase Modernization\nDevelop a pragmatic modernization strategy for ROI’s mature Oracle environment and evolving product architecture. \nEvaluate Oracle on AWS, cloud-native services, and alternative database platforms for appropriate workloads. \nAutomate database administration, deployment, monitoring, testing, and maintenance to reduce technical debt and complexity. Strengthen Internal Database Capability \nServe as a senior database resource and mentor engineers in relational design, SQL performance, and database best practices. \nCreate documentation, training, reusable patterns, and automation that strengthen shared database knowledge. \nClarify responsibilities, knowledge, and escalation procedures with the managed services provider. \nSupport Data & Product Initiatives\nProvide database expertise for data pipelines, client conversions, migrations, and significant product initiatives. \nPartner with data and engineering teams on scalable, secure, and efficient data movement across platforms and external systems. \nCollaborate Across the Organization\nServe as the senior technical partner to ROI’s database managed services provider. \nDefine responsibilities, escalation paths, service expectations, and SLAs, and regularly assess service quality.\nEvaluate database-related vendors, technologies, and services as needed. \nRequired Qualifications\n8+ years of Oracle database administration experience supporting complex production environments. \nAdvanced experience with Oracle performance tuning, SQL optimization, and query-plan analysis. \nStrong knowledge of Oracle technologies, including RAC, Data Guard, RMAN, ASM, Exadata, and partitioning. \nWorking familiarity with PL/SQL sufficient to review, troubleshoot, and advise on database-resident code. \nStrong relational database architecture, design, and data-modeling skills. \nExperience with backup, recovery, high availability, and disaster-recovery planning and testing. \nExperience with database security, auditing, access management, and compliance-oriented environments such as PCI. \nAbility to diagnose complex performance and reliability issues across applications and database infrastructure. \nStrong communication, collaboration, prioritization, and mentoring skills. \nPreferred Qualifications (Nice-to-Have)\nExperience developing or executing Oracle modernization and cloud migration strategies. \nExperience with Oracle workloads in AWS (Oracle DB@AWS). \nFamiliarity with AWS RDS, Aurora, or other cloud-native database technologies. \nExperience evaluating when workloads should remain on Oracle versus transition to alternative database platforms. \nExperience with data pipeline and transformation technologies. \nExperience with Datadog or comparable database monitoring and observability platforms. \nOracle Certified Professional (OCP) or comparable Oracle certification. \nExperience with SaaS, transaction-intensive, fundraising, payment, financial, or other mission-critical software platforms. \nExperience working in a small or mid-sized technology organization where senior technical contributors work across traditional functional boundaries. \nExperience automating database administration, monitoring, deployment, or operational processes. \nPLEASE NOTE:\nThis role will work in the Eastern Time Zone.\nLimited travel.
