What is the role?

Roku is seeking a Senior Counsel, Employment and Labor to join its Legal team, providing strategic guidance on a broad range of employment, labor, benefits, and related matters across the UK, EMEA, and global operations. In this role, you will partner closely with People Business Partners, People Shared Services, Compensation & Benefits, and other cross-functional teams to translate complex legal requirements into clear, actionable advice. You will draft and negotiate employment agreements, settlement agreements, and other key documents, while managing employment-related claims, litigation, and outside counsel relationships. You will monitor evolving employment legislation and proactively drive compliance strategies and risk mitigation across the organization. This position requires an entrepreneurial mindset and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced, innovative environment, balancing multiple priorities and stakeholders. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in UK employment and labor law, with exposure to additional EMEA or international jurisdictions, and a commitment to practical, business-oriented legal counsel.

What are the responsibilities of the role?

• p]:inline">Advise People Business Partners, People Shared Services, Compensation & Benefits, and other partner teams on employment matters including hiring, performance management, grievances, disciplinary actions, investigations, redundancies, reorganizations, and wage and hour compliance
• p]:inline">Provide counsel on agency worker and contractor engagement, reasonable accommodations, flexible work requests, leaves of absence, employee privacy, data security, benefits, TUPE transfers, and works councils
• p]:inline">Support the development and maintenance of a global employment and labor framework, including handbooks, policies, and procedures
• p]:inline">Research and monitor employment legislation and legal developments, proactively implementing compliance and risk-mitigation strategies
• p]:inline">Review and advise on contractual agreements with third-party service providers, vendors, and staffing agencies, as well as internal practices for engaging contingent workers
• p]:inline">Draft and negotiate employment agreements, performance and disciplinary notices, settlement agreements, and other employment-related documentation
• p]:inline">Advise on complex and sensitive employment matters, facilitating pre-dispute resolution and positioning the organization for potential employment litigation
• p]:inline">Manage employment-related claims and litigation globally, including overseeing outside counsel, responding to complaints and settlement demands, and negotiating resolutions
• p]:inline">Assist with preparing, reviewing, and implementing employee training programs
• p]:inline">Support additional legal projects and initiatives as needed

What experience would help someone be successful in this role at Roku?

• p]:inline">Qualified legal professional with 6 or more years of post-qualification experience advising on employment and labor matters at a law firm or in-house legal department
• p]:inline">Deep knowledge of UK employment and labor laws, with exposure to additional EMEA jurisdictions or India preferred
• p]:inline">Prior in-house legal experience strongly preferred
• p]:inline">Experience advising on employment and labor issues in the technology, entertainment, or content production industries preferred
• p]:inline">Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint
• p]:inline">Demonstrated ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects and deadlines across stakeholders in a fast-paced environment
• p]:inline">Proven ability to work collaboratively across departments and functions
• p]:inline">Excellent written and oral communication skills
• p]:inline">Proactive approach to identifying and suggesting process improvements
• p]:inline">Ability to work independently with an entrepreneurial mindset

Roku fosters an inclusive and collaborative environment where teams generally work in the office Monday through Thursday. Fridays are generally flexible for remote work, except for employees whose specific roles or assigned office location require five days' a week attendance.
