Depending on the team's priorities, that could include APIs, payments, integrations, reporting, point of sale, online checkout or the systems that help us operate reliably across different countries and regulatory environments.\nThis is a hands-on role for an engineer who wants to own meaningful customer problems from discovery and design through delivery, production operation and iteration, backend and front end alike.\nYou'll work closely with product managers and engineers on your team. You'll have room to form a view, challenge assumptions and make pragmatic technical decisions that balance delivery speed with security, reliability and long-term maintainability.\nOur backend runs on C#, .NET, T-SQL and AWS services including Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, S3, SES and SQS. On the front end, we use Angular alongside our own design system and component library.\nWhy this work matters\nReal scale and real consequences\nROLLER runs at real scale: thousands of requests per second across hundreds of containers, powering over 100 million guest experiences in 2025 alone. That scale is the norm here, and it's what makes the work matter, the software you build directly affects the people running the venue and the guests walking through the door.\nReal-world complexity\nOur customers operate across different markets, regulations and operating models, so the problems here are rarely textbook: transactions, localisation, privacy, compliance and customer-facing workflows that need judgment, not just cleverness.\nMeaningful ownership\nYou won't simply pick up isolated tickets. You'll build context around a problem space, help shape the solution, ship it, and stay close to what happens after release.\nWhat you'll do\nDesign, build and maintain secure, scalable software across the stack, from backend services to the interfaces operators and guests use every day\nDevelop APIs and integrations across ROLLER's platform, and build user-facing features using our design system and component library\nTake features from early discovery through technical design, implementation, release and iteration, working closely with product and engineering teammates\nTroubleshoot production issues and improve reliability, performance, observability and maintainability as the platform scales\nContribute to design discussions and code reviews, and help teammates improve without ego\nConnect technical decisions to customer and business outcomes\nAbout you\nYou do not need to match every point. We are interested in engineers who demonstrate the underlying capabilities, even if their current stack is different from ours.\nYou will likely bring:\nThree to five years of professional software-engineering experience, although scope matters more than an exact number\nStrong full stack experience, comfortable moving between backend services and the interfaces that sit on top of them\nA track record of building and operating APIs, services or transactional product systems in a product, SaaS or similarly fast-moving environment\nSound engineering fundamentals across data modelling, testing, security, performance, cloud patterns and maintainability\nComfortable taking an ambiguous problem through to a practical outcome, and learning from production incidents or customer feedback along the way\nClear communication, curiosity and the confidence to give and receive honest feedback\nA willingness to work from our South Melbourne office three days per week\nIf your recent experience is in another modern backend language such as Java, Go, Kotlin or Python, we still want to hear from you if you have strong product-engineering fundamentals and are a quick learner.\nWe believe AI is a career-defining inflection point.
