You’ll work with your PM and designer to decide what gets built, how it’s built and when it ships.\n Real scale, real consequences - Thousands of requests per second across hundreds of containers, powering over 100 million guest experiences in 2025 alone.\n Tackle meaningful product challenges - Drive tangible business outcomes by solving complex, multi-faceted problems that go far beyond standard formulas.\nWhy This Role Matters\nThis is a hands-on leadership role. You’ll spend around 70 to 80% of your time building, and the rest leading a team of engineers in Sydney: 1:1s, performance, career growth and hiring. You’ll report to our Engineering Manager.\nYour squads own the parts of ROLLER that keep guests coming back and help venues grow: memberships and recurring billing, loyalty and promotions, channel management and resellers, and localisation for new markets. Recent work includes ROLLER Loyalty, our newest add-on, and new membership tools that help venues keep members longer. When a membership payment fails or a promotion misfires, a venue and its guests feel it straight away.\nOur backend runs on C#, .NET, T-SQL and AWS services including Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, S3, SES and SQS. On the front end, we use Angular alongside our own design system and component library.\nWhat You’ll Do\nLead the team\nLine manage engineers: regular 1:1s, performance and career growth\nSet technical direction, break down work, unblock people and keep delivery moving\nCoach Engineers through code reviews, pairing and honest feedback\nHelp build the Sydney team by sitting on interview panels and raising the hiring bar\nBuild\nStay hands-on across the stack, building backend services, APIs and the Angular interfaces operators and guests use every day\nPartner with product managers and designers from discovery through release, and challenge the user experience as well as the technical approach\nOwn production\nCollaborate closely with SRE team to monitor system performance and proactively identify potential issues.\nAbout You\nYou have a high appetite for Technology and AI and a natural curiosity for how it can transform your work. You’re comfortable using AI tools to automate repetitive 'busy work,' freeing you up to focus on high-impact work.\nSix-plus years in software engineering, including time as a tech lead, lead engineer or the go-to senior on a squad, and you want to line manage people\nDeep backend experience in C# and .NET, and enough front-end experience to work comfortably across the stack\nDeep knowledge of cloud patterns, application and database performance, with experiencing applying them to varying workflows and workloads\nYou’ve led a production incident through to the post-mortem and the fix\nYou’ve mentored engineers, and you enjoy it\nYou’ll push back on product when the user experience isn’t right\nYou don’t need to match every point. If most of your recent experience is in another modern backend language such as Java, Go, Kotlin or Python, we still want to hear from you, as long as you’re keen to work in .NET day to day.\nWe believe AI is a career-defining inflection point.
