This is more than just a job; this is a legacy.\nThe Control & Instrumentation (C&I) capability at Rolls-Royce SMR is responsible for defining, designing and delivering the control, protection and automation architecture that underpins the safe and efficient operation of the power station.\nThe Data Processing and Control Systems (DPCS) function sits at the heart of this capability, ensuring requirements are fully defined, managed, traceable and aligned throughout the lifecycle of the power station.\nAbout the Role:\nAs a Senior Control & Instrumentation Engineer - DPCS Requirements, you will provide technical leadership for the definition, capture, analysis, allocation, baselining and assurance of requirements for Data Processing and Control Systems (DPCS) across the SMR lifecycle.\nYou will work closely with plant, safety, architecture, human factors, cyber security, equipment and supplier teams to translate stakeholder needs into controlled C&I requirements and acceptance criteria. Applying systems engineering and requirements-management best practice, you will manage interfaces, configuration, traceability, verification status and design maturity across the programme.\nThis role is specifically focused on DPCS requirements management and provides an opportunity to influence the integrity and quality of the requirements foundation that supports the wider SMR design.\nWe’ll Need You To:\nElicit stakeholder needs from plant, process, mechanical, electrical, safety and operational teams\nTranslate stakeholder needs into clear, structured and testable C&I requirements\nDevelop and maintain requirement hierarchies and allocation across systems, subsystems, platforms, software, equipment and interfaces\nOwn requirements quality activities, including reviews for correctness, completeness, consistency, feasibility and verifiability\nEstablish and maintain bidirectional traceability between needs, requirements, design artefacts and verification evidence\nDefine verification methods, acceptance criteria and evidence requirements\nManage requirements baselines, configuration control and change activities\nCoordinate C&I interface requirements across control systems, HMI/SCADA, diagnostics, communications, cyber security and associated plant systems\nReview supplier requirements deliverables and act as an intelligent customer\nSupport verification, validation and evidence generation activities\nMaintain objective measures of requirements quality, maturity and verification status\nSupport engineers through requirements reviews, coaching and governance activities\nKey Skills Required:\nWe know there’s no such thing as the ‘perfect’ candidate. If you meet around 75% of the criteria below, we’d love to hear from you:\nExperience in requirements engineering and management, including elicitation, decomposition, allocation, traceability, baselining and change control\nStrong practical understanding of requirements verification, validation and evidence generation\nExperience working within highly regulated industries such as Nuclear, Defence, Aerospace, Rail, Automotive, Energy or Oil & Gas\nKnowledge of C&I systems including: Reactor and plant control Protection systems HMI/SCADA Diagnostics Communications systems Engineering systems\nExperience using requirements management tools such as IBM DOORS Next or similar platforms\nKnowledge of relevant standards including: IEC 61513 IEC 61226 IEC 61508\nUnderstanding of systems engineering principles including architecture alignment, interface management and verification planning\nStrong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to facilitate workshops, reconcile conflicting requirements and communicate complex information clearly\nExperience reviewing supplier deliverables and acting as an intelligent customer\nAbility to make proportionate technical judgements and challenge assumptions constructively\nStrong communication, technical writing and presentation skills\nQualifications:\nDegree-qualified in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, Mechatronics or a related engineering discipline\nApplicants without a degree who can demonstrate suitable knowledge and experience will also be considered\nLocation:\nHybrid working with one of the following as your primary site:\nDerby, Manchester or Warrington.\nSalary and Package:\nThe salary band for this role will be between £53,700 - £70,500 dependent on the skills, values and knowledge you bring.
