We are revolutionising an industry. This is a once-in-a-career opportunity for people excited by a major engineering challenge and the legacy it will create.\nThe Opportunity:\nTake technical responsibility for the verification and validation of complex electrical power systems for the Rolls-Royce SMR power station,If you feel you meet 75% of the requirements for this role, we would love to hear from you.\nThis role may suit you through one of two routes. You may be an experienced electrical or power-systems engineer with some experience of verification, testing, assurance, quality or technical substantiation. Alternatively, you may bring substantial V&V, design assurance or engineering assurance experience, supported by a working knowledge of electrical power systems.\nYou do not need to be an expert in every area listed. We are looking for the technical judgement to assess requirements, methods and evidence, with sufficient electrical knowledge to provide credible challenge and identify when specialist input is required.\nYou will work in the Development Engineering organisation which is accountable for demonstrating that the power station design meets its objectives and requirements. We define, commission, review and integrate the verification evidence that underpins design delivery, including analysis, testing, demonstration, qualification and research.\nAbout the role:\nThis is an electrical engineering role within the Verification & Validation (V&V) Delivery team. You do not need to have held a job title containing “V&V”, You will combine electrical power-systems knowledge with experience of verification, validation, testing, quality, assurance or technical substantiation.\nYour existing depth may be primarily in electrical engineering or primarily in V&V and assurance, but you must be able to make credible, evidence-based judgements about electrical requirements and their verification. You must be able to judge whether electrical requirements, methods, analyses, tests and evidence are technically sound and sufficient.\nYou will take technical responsibility for coordinating and delivering V&V for electrical systems and components, working with a team of engineers and subject matter experts. The scope may include HV and LV power networks (as per BS-7671), transformers, switchgear, cables, protection and control, uninterruptible power supplies, batteries, standby or emergency generators, power quality and electrical system studies.\nWorking with electrical system owners, safety specialists, analysts, component teams and suppliers, you will develop proportionate verification strategies, define acceptance criteria, identify evidence gaps and make clear, auditable compliance judgements.\nWe’ll Need You To:\nDevelop and maintain verification and validation strategies for allocated electrical systems, capabilities or components\nYou are not expected to have experience across every electrical system or study listed. Your depth might be in protection, HV or LV distribution, generation, standby power, UPS and batteries, testing and commissioning, electrical studies or another relevant specialism.\nTranslate electrical and safety requirements into clear verification activities, methods, acceptance criteria and evidence needs.\nReview electrical engineering analyses and studies, such as load flow, short-circuit, protection coordination, motor starting, voltage and frequency performance.\nDefine objectives and requirements for tests, demonstrations, inspections, similarity assessments and analytical activities, then agree delivery with internal teams and suppliers.\nAct as an intelligent customer by challenging assumptions, methods, input data, model suitability, test coverage and the quality of evidence. This may also include setting early equipment qualification expectations for use in nuclear power plants.\nAssess evidence against requirements, record compliance judgements and identify gaps, risks, dependencies and further work.\nSupport verification of safety claims and produce clear technical reports suitable for internal governance and regulatory engagement.\nManage technical interfaces across electrical, C&I, safety, mechanical, civil, commissioning and supply-chain teams.\nPerform independent technical checks and mentor engineers to improve the consistency and quality of V&V delivery.\nKey Skills:\nWe recognise that no candidate will bring equal depth across every electrical system, study and verification method listed. Your expertise may be concentrated in one or more areas, and we will consider the overall balance of your electrical and V&V experience.\nEssential experience\nA degree or equivalent substantial experience in electrical engineering, power systems, systems engineering or a closely related discipline.\nA strong professional foundation through at least one of the following routes:significant electrical or power-systems experience, combined with experience of verification, testing, quality, assurance or technical substantiation; or\nsignificant V&V, design assurance, quality or engineering-assurance experience, combined with a sound working knowledge of electrical power systems.\n\nExperience interpreting requirements and assessing objective engineering evidence against requirements.\nExperience working across interfaces and constructively challenging technical specialists, suppliers or design teams.\nAbility to explain complex electrical matters clearly in written reports, technical reviews and multidisciplinary discussions.\nA methodical, systems-thinking approach to technical risk, assumptions, traceability and configuration.\nRelevant electrical knowledge may include power generation or distribution, protection, transformers, switchgear, cables, UPS and battery systems, standby generation, essential supplies, electrical studies, testing or commissioning. Candidates are not expected to bring depth across every area.\nDesirable experience\nExperience of verification and validation, design assurance, independent verification, quality assurance, technical substantiation or engineering assurance within a safety-critical, regulated or complex engineering environment.\nNuclear electrical systems or another regulated environment such as defence, rail, aerospace, oil and gas, pharmaceuticals or process industries.\nElectrical power system modelling digital tools and review of evidence produced. This may include familiarity with any of the following tools such as ETAP, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSCAD, Trimble ProDesign, ElectricalOM or equivalent.\nEquipment qualification, which may include environmental, seismic, EMC or functional qualification of electrical equipment.\nIEng/ CEng status, or progressing towards professional registration.\nLocation:\nHybrid office/ remote working, with Derby, Manchester or Warrington as your primary site. The role will require effective collaboration with colleagues and suppliers across the programme.\nSalary and package:\nThe salary band is £50,650 to £66,500, dependent on the skills, values and knowledge you bring. There may be limited flexibility with the starting salary in exceptional cases, and scope to develop the role further.\nPerformance-related bonus with a target opportunity of 12.5%\nBenefits allowance of £2,200 per annum for a bespoke package\nPension contributions of 12% employer and 6% employee\n29 days’ holiday plus public holidays, with the ability to buy or sell up to 5 days\nBupa private medical insurance, single cover (option to upgrade at using benefits allowance)• Life assurance at six times pensionable pay\n£250 one-off home-office support payment for new starters.\nSelection process\nClosing date: 8th November\nThe process will begin with an introductory call with the Talent Acquisition Partner, followed by first-round interviews. As part of the application or screening process, candidates should be prepared to describe a specific electrical system, study, test or assurance activity for which they held technical responsibility, including how they judged the adequacy of the evidence.\n\nPay Range:\n£50,600.00-\n£66,465.00\nWhy Join Us?\nYou’ll be joining a forward-thinking organisation that values transparency, fairness, and innovation.
