This is a highly cross-functional PM role focused on enabling faster, higher-quality pricing decisions and model deployment across the company.\nYou’ll own critical pricing capabilities, including our internal tool Pricing Platform System (PPS), and lead the evolution of the infrastructure, tooling, and decisioning systems at the center of Root’s pricing ecosystem.\nPricing is one of Root’s core strategic advantages, and this role will shape the systems that determine how quickly we turn data and models into market-leading pricing decisions.\nIn this role, you will help build the next generation of Root’s machine learning platform for pricing, creating the infrastructure that allows researchers to move rapidly from experimentation to production. You will work closely with researchers on problems including feature pipelines and feature stores, reproducible model training and orchestration, model registries and versioning, automated validation, model serving, production observability, and tooling that ensures consistency between research and production. You will also explore how emerging LLM technology can revolutionize the data science workflow, improving the way models are developed, tested, deployed, and maintained, with the goal of dramatically reducing the time and effort required to turn new research into production pricing models.\nSalary Range: $168,300 - $210,980 (Eligible for competitive bonus and equity offering)\nRoot is a “work where it works best” company. We will continue to have our headquarters in Columbus, Ohio.\nHow You Will Make an Impact\nOwn the Pricing platform roadmap and iterate on the vision for 2027 and beyond\nLead a team of engineers through the full product lifecycle, from ideation to implementation and iteration\nPartner closely with Engineering, Data Science, and Actuarial to identify platform needs, prioritize investments, and define a roadmap that reduces friction from data readiness through model development, deployment, diagnostics, and monitoring\nGuide the development of end-to-end ML platform capabilities, including opportunities to leverage emerging LLM technology to automate research, modeling, validation, and deployment workflows\nWrite clear product requirement documentation (PRDs) that align business strategy with engineering plans\nCultivate a prioritized product backlog using robust product frameworks and data-driven decision makingAccelerate the path from new data and model features to production deployment\nImprove pricing workflow speed, reliability, observability, and usability\nBuild self-service tooling that enables faster experimentation and feature creation\nReduce operational and regulatory bottlenecks across pricing and filing workflows\nSupport Root’s nationwide expansion by adapting pricing capabilities to meet the specific regulatory and operational needs of new states\nWhat You Will Need to Succeed\n8+ years of product management experience, ideally in fintech, insurtech, or another data-intensive regulated environment\nStrong systems thinking and comfort with technical concepts like predictive modeling, APIs, and workflow orchestration\nDrive the integration of LLMs and advanced AI capabilities directly into daily data science workflows, transforming raw feedback into proactive models.\nData-driven mindset; experience working with data scientists and analytics partners\nExcellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex concepts into simple user experiences\nExperience in agile development methodologies\nCustomer-centric mindset with demonstrated success in improving user experiences\nDetail-oriented with the ability to multitask and prioritize effectively\nAdaptable approach to scope and responsibilities in a growing organization\nCollaborative work style with the ability to influence without direct authority\nRoll-up-the-sleeves work ethic and \"do-what-it-takes\" attitude to drive results in a fast-paced environment\nAbility to travel 10% of the time (quarterly in-person team events)\nPreferred:\nExperience as a data scientist, analyst, or Product Manager partnering closely with data science and ML engineering teams.\nExperience working in insurtech, preferably in the risk and pricing ecosystem\nAs part of Root's interview process, we kindly ask that all candidates be on camera for virtual interviews.
