Its vacancies include technical and offshore superintendents, marine operators and coordinators, crewing and QA executives, shipbroker trainees, service and purchasing managers, and in-house recruitment consultants.

We are seeking an experienced Crew Manager to oversee day-to-day crewing operations while also serving as the onshore HR point of contact for the local Brazil team.

This is a leadership role requiring strong expertise in maritime crewing, crew compliance, team management, stakeholder engagement, and Brazilian HR operations. The successful candidate will work closely with HQ, vessel operations, clients, unions, vendors, payroll, insurance, and local management to ensure efficient and compliant crew operations.

Crewing Operations

  • Manage and oversee daily crewing operations and activities.
  • Lead and supervise the local Crewing Team, ensuring operational efficiency and service delivery.
  • Ensure crewing requirements for the fleet are met in line with client, charterer, and operational expectations.
  • Review and streamline crewing processes in accordance with HQ policies and procedures, with a focus on optimising crew mobilization/demobilization and related costs.
  • Ensure all crew joining vessels have valid documentation, certificates, visas, work passes, and permits in accordance with company, flag state, and charterer requirements.
  • Ensure crew profiles and documentation are accurately and promptly maintained in the crew management system (Compas), in line with KPIs.
  • Approve crew movements, flight bookings, employment contracts, and payroll through the relevant crew management and payroll systems.
  • Coordinate closely with Payroll teams on crew wages, reimbursements, and claims to ensure timely and accurate payments.
  • Work closely with the Insurance Team on crew P&I matters.
  • Actively participate in crew engagement initiatives, including seminars, workshops, briefings, and ship visits.
  • Serve as a key crewing contact for internal and external stakeholders, including labor unions, lawyers, clients, and vendors.
  • Lead and support Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) negotiations with unions and oversee implementation following approval.
  • Review and approve purchase orders and invoices related to crew operations and mobilization/demobilisation, ensuring alignment with approved budgets and FAL requirements.
  • Coach and develop team members, strengthening their skills and competencies.
  • Perform other crewing-related duties as assigned by the Function and Business Unit Head.

Onshore HR Responsibilities

  • Act as the onshore HR point of contact for the local Brazil team alongside core crewing responsibilities.
  • Support employee relations, performance management, and day-to-day HR matters.
  • Coordinate onboarding, offboarding, and employment contract administration for onshore employees.
  • Provide guidance to local management on Brazilian labour law compliance and HR policies.
  • Partner with HQ Talent Acquisition, Talent Management, and Learning & Development teams on hiring, development, and training requirements.
  • Support local payroll and benefits administration for onshore employees.

Requirements

  • Degree in Human Resources, Crew Management, Maritime Studies, or a related discipline preferred.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in crewing and/or HR operations within the offshore/maritime sector, including experience managing teams.
  • Strong knowledge of international maritime crewing regulations and requirements, including STCW, ILO and MLC 2006, as well as applicable flag state requirements.
  • Proven experience in team leadership and managing multicultural, international crew.
  • Experience in union relations, CBA negotiations, and industrial relations is highly desirable.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients, unions, vendors, internal teams, and senior management.
  • Good understanding of HR generalist practices, particularly within a Brazilian employment environment.
  • Fluent in local language andEnglish, both written and spoken.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with a high level of attention to detail and compliance.
  • Positive, adaptable, and growth-oriented mindset.
  • Independent, resilient, and able to perform effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
