RSM US is an American accounting, tax and consulting firm whose predecessor was founded in 1926, and it is the largest firm serving the middle market, deliberately positioned below the big four. It provides audit and assurance, tax compliance and advisory, and a consulting practice covering technology, risk, security, transactions and management consulting, organised around industry specialisms rather than service lines alone. Headquartered in Chicago and part of the international RSM network, it converted from a partnership toward outside investment in 2024, a change that has been reshaping how large accounting firms are owned.

We are the leading provider of professional services to the middle market globally, our purpose is to instill confidence in a world of change, empowering our clients and people to realize their full potential. Our exceptional people are the key to our unrivaled, culture and talent experience and our ability to be compelling to our clients. You’ll find an environment that inspires and empowers you to thrive both personally and professionally. There’s no one like you and that’s why there’s nowhere like RSM.

RSM’s Finance as a Service (FaaS) practice is looking for skilled professionals to join us at the Supervisor level. RSM’s FaaS practice blends the best of both worlds by providing candidates with the career growth opportunities that come with working for a public accounting firm, while at the same time operating in private company and family office environments on a daily basis. We provide accounting, technology and consulting services to private, lower middle market clients and family office / family enterprise organizations, including multi-entity structures made up of investment entities, trusts, foundations and operating businesses. In other words, we serve as an extension of the accounting department for our clients. Our diverse client base includes family offices and family enterprises, as well as technology, life sciences, not-for-profit, consumer products and professional services organizations, just to name a few. This position will need to work to deadlines and manage a multitude of accounting activities, such as month-end close, multi-entity financial reporting, year-end audit and tax support, and budgeting and forecasting activities. In addition, you will have the ability to learn and efficiently use our best-in-class cloud-based technology stack. FaaS Supervisors will have contact with our clients (family office executives, CEO, COO, CFO, VP of Finance, Controller, etc.), as well as family members and other client contacts, including investment, tax, legal and professional service providers.

We operate in a team-based environment and have a proven track record of delivering exceptional value to our clients. The key attributes that will make someone successful in this role include:

  • Assertive, collaborative team player with a desire to learn different industries, complex entity structures and develop a Controller skill set
  • Superior ability to prioritize and focus in a dynamic, multi-tasking environment
  • Willingness to learn and work with emerging technology solutions such as OCR (Optical Character Recognition), AI (Artificial Intelligence) and accounting bots
  • Professional presentation, sound judgment and strong communication skills, as contact with clients and their advisers will be extensive
  • Interest in personal/professional development and advancement
  • Dedication to lifelong learning, including staying abreast of best practices in financial management and family office operations
  • Ability to analyze and interpret - not just report - financial information to add value to client businesses and family office decision-makers as a trusted adviser
  • Solid Excel skills (create tables, use formulas, pivot tables)

Responsibilities:

This is a hands-on position that requires transaction processing, multi-entity accounting and account reconciliation skills. Duties include:

  • Key point of contact for our clients’ Purchase to Pay, Order to Cash, treasury/cash management and Month-End Close cycles
  • Lead, manage and coach client services representatives, associates and senior associates
  • Support clients’ month-end close processes across multiple legal entities, which may include reviewing journal entries, account reconciliations, intercompany activity and investment- or capital-related transactions
  • Prepare/review clients’ monthly financial statements and management reports, including entity-level and consolidated reporting, month-over-month variance analysis and/or actual-to-budget analysis
  • Analyze and interpret financial information for family office and client management, providing actionable insight and decision support
  • Continuously identify opportunities to enhance clients’ monthly operations, internal controls and reporting processes and make suggestions for improvement
  • Understand our technology stack and identify additional processes, systems, modules and integrations that can drive efficiencies in multi-entity accounting, reporting and the month-end close
  • Define and document repeatable methodologies with appropriate tools and templates that can be leveraged for future projects
  • Establish engagement budgets
  • Direct initial assessments, implementations and onboarding of new FaaS clients, including understanding legal entity structures, reporting requirements and key service-provider relationships
  • Participate in meetings with new client prospects and in the proposal process, including family office and family enterprise opportunities

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance is required
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are a must, including the ability to communicate proactively and exercise discretion when handling confidential financial information
  • Ability to balance multiple responsibilities simultaneously, plus excellent analytical and decision-making skills
  • Progressive experience in accounting and financial management in a corporate accounting, professional services or family office environment, in roles such as accounting supervisor, assistant controller, controller, director of finance, or CFO
  • Strong technical financial accounting (U.S. GAAP) knowledge
  • Strong management accounting and operational finance knowledge; exposure to multi-entity structures, partnerships, trusts, investment entities or intercompany accounting is preferred
  • Experience in the financial planning and analysis (FP&A) function (financial modeling, budgeting and forecasting, financial analysis, etc.)
  • Familiarity with U.S. federal and state income tax principles, particularly as they relate to high-net-worth individuals, trusts, partnerships, and investment entities, is preferred but not required
  • Proficiency utilizing Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • Strong time-management and organizational skills with sensitivity to timeframes, budgets, and outcomes across multiple clients/projects
  • Ability to work independently in a growing, dynamic, fast-paced environment with extensive multi-tasking demands
  • Experience with automated accounting and reporting systems (e.g., Sage Intacct, NetSuite, BlackLine, Ramp, BILL, etc. Experience with Addepar or Masttro would be preferred, but not required)
  • CPA is preferred but not required; family office or private client experience is also preferred
