This role is responsible for designing, building, and troubleshooting API-driven integrations between Workday and enterprise platforms. Workday serves as the system of record, while Microsoft Power Automate and other tools act as orchestration and execution layers.\nThe ideal candidate combines: deep knowledge of Workday APIs, data structures, and business process behavior, and a strong understanding of integration architecture and engineering principles that apply across any system or platform.\nResponsibilities:\n1. Design and implement Workday integrations using:\nWorkday REST APIs\nWorkday SOAP APIs (Web Services)\nWorkday data model and business process logic\n2. Construct and troubleshoot:\nXML payloads and API requests\nAPI responses and error handling\nAuthentication, security, and integration context\n3. Build integrations that follow sound engineering principles:\nExplicit validation prior to write-back\nDeterministic execution and predictable outcomes\nRobust error handling and retry strategies\nFull observability including logging and audit trails\n4. Diagnose integration issues by analyzing:\nRaw API request and response data\nWorkday Business Process state and configuration\nData integrity and sequencing issues across systems\n\n5. Partner with engineering teams to support orchestration patterns using tools such as:\nPower Automate\nAPI layers\nWorkflow and automation platforms\n6. Ensure integrations respect system boundaries:\nWorkday enforces business rules and approval flows\nExternal systems orchestrate, not override system-of-record logic\nRequired Qualifications:\nBachelor’s degree OR a significant amount of directly related work experience beyond the minimum required for the position \n4+ years hands-on Workday integration experience\nStrong expertise in:Workday SOAP APIs (Web Services)\nWorkday REST APIs\nWorkday data model and object relationships\nWorkday Business Process-controlled API behavior\n\nProven ability to:Construct API requests manually when needed\nTroubleshoot failures at the request/response level\nDebug integrations without relying on Studio abstraction layers\n\nStrong understanding of:XML structure, namespaces, and schema validation\nIntegration security (ISU, ISSG)\nAuthentication and API connectivity patterns\n\nMust demonstrate strong fundamentals in integration and software engineering, including:\nDesigning integrations that are:Deterministic and predictable\nResilient to failure\nObservable and auditable\n\nUnderstanding of core integration patterns:API-driven architecture\nRequest/response vs event-driven models\nOrchestration vs system-of-record responsibility\n\nAbility to:Define validation layers before system updates\nDesign safe retry strategies without duplicating or corrupting data\nIsolate failures across multi-system workflows\n\nAt RSM, we offer a competitive benefits and compensation package for all our people.
