The Driver attends to client needs while they are in his or her custody.\nKey Responsibilities:\nEnsure the safe transportation of clients in an accessible vehicle as scheduled\nEnsure any necessary certification is completed as directed\nMaximize safety through daily maintenance of the driver’s primary vehicle and ensure all necessary certification is current\nComplete vehicle log sheets regularly\nProvide support to clients as needed, including carrying and safely securing clients’ equipment at pick up and drop off locations\nAbides by all confidentiality and protection of personal information policies, regulations and practices and ensures appropriate safeguards are in place within their role\nAbide by the VON Volunteer/Community Support Services Driving Agreement\nAbides by all VON policies and work practices including any event and incident reports\nAll other duties as assigned and delivery of service according to schedules\nCommon Responsibilities:Promotes the goals and values of VON and their role as an integrated community care provider.\nPromotes a safe and healthy workplace ensuring workplace conduct and activities are in accordance with the provincial Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and compliant with the VON Safety Management System, including all Policies, Safe Work Practices and Procedures.\nAbides by all VON policies and work practices.\nAbides by all confidentiality and protection of personal information policies, regulations and practices and ensures appropriate safeguards are in place within their role.\nWorks in collaboration with other staff in a team approach to service delivery.\nExternal and Internal Relationships:Regularly engage with and support clients in the process of meeting their transportation needs\nEducation, Designations and Experience:High school diploma\nA minimum of one year of experience working with seniors and adults with disabilities\nExperience with, and physically capable of, handling vehicle restraints \nSkill Requirements:Able to work with accessible equipment e.g. wheelchairs, walkers\nReliable, dependable, and flexible\nGood verbal communication skills.\nMust be able to lift and carry a minimum of 35 pounds using appropriate lifting techniques.\nStrong attention to detail.\nMust be able to engage in physical activity as a regular component of the job.\nAbility to speak French is an asset.\n Other:Must possess a valid driver’s permit and a clean driver’s abstract. The abstract must be obtained annually.\nMust provide proof of required insurance coverage when using personal vehicle\nA current and original copy of a satisfactory Criminal Records Check is required upon the start of employment.\nA Vulnerable Sector Search and/or a Child Abuse Registry Check required.\nMust be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).\nWorking conditions and physical demands: This role requires a detail-oriented approach in a dynamic environment, with physical activity including lifting, carrying (using proper techniques), bending, reaching, kneeling, and other movements that emphasize good body mechanics.
