The department is responsible for design and validation of the combustion section of turbofan, turboprop, and turboshaft engines. The aerothermal design process uses various numerical tools, including CFD simulations, with validation testing in rigs and engines. This internship will focus on CFD prediction and validation of the NOx emissions created by the combustion process in a gas turbine engine.\nWhat will your day-to-day look like?\nPrepare combustion chamber geometry using ANSYS CAD tools\n\nMesh geometry using ANSYS meshing tools\n\nReview of NOx prediction models available in open literature and comparison to the models implemented in ANSYS Fluent\n\nPerform combustion CFD simulations in ANSYS Fluent with primary focus on the prediction of the NOx created by the combustion process\n\nReview combustor NOx data measured on engines to understand key variables and the measurement details\n\nPerform CFD simulations with the NOx models available in ANSYS Fluent and compare the predictions to engine data\n\nImplement a new NOx model obtained from the literature survey in ANSYS Fluent\n\nSummarize and present findings\n\nDocument the findings in a report\n\nWhat You Will Learn\nGas turbine engine combustion system components and function\n\nGaseous emissions\n\nCFD improvement and validation process\n\nPratt & Whitney Canada's engine portfolio\n\nTeamwork & group dynamics\n\nWhat do you need to be successful?\nBe eligible to work in Canada.\n\nBe enrolled in a Canadian university throughout your internship.\n\nBe able to work on-site in the province where you are hired if applicable.\n\nMaster/PhD candidate in Mechanical, Aerospace, Engineering Physics or Chemical Engineering\n\nProficiency in ANSYS CAD tools (SpeceClaim and/or Design modeller and/or Discovery)\n\nProficiency in ANSYS mesh generators (Fluent mesher and/or ANSYS Workbench mesher)\n\nProficiency in ANSYS Fluent or other Combustion CFD codes such as OpenFOAM\n\nSolid understanding of Fluid mechanics, multiphase flows and combustion sciences\n\nProficiency of computer programming using C/C++, Python, MATLAB languages\n\nAssets:\nExposure to combustion CFD\n\nGood oral and written communication skills\n\nAbility to work independently as well as in a team\n\nWorking at Pratt & Whitney Canada\nThe masculine pronoun is used without discrimination and solely for the purpose of making the text easier to read.
