We currently hire in most U.S. states, with the exception of Hawaii.\nAbout the Role\nAt Rula, exceptional patient outcomes are powered by world-class engineering. As a Senior Software Engineer on our Patient Services team, you won’t just maintain existing systems-you will architect the high-throughput, distributed platform that serves as the single source of truth for all patient data across Rula. We are currently undergoing a period of hyper-scale, and you will lead the technical strategy for one of our highest-impact initiatives: re-engineering our core backend data systems to be massively scalable, resilient, and fault-tolerant.\nIn this critical role, you will tackle complex distributed systems challenges where system performance, uptime, and data integrity directly impact real human lives seeking mental healthcare. You will drive zero-to-one architectural decisions during a pivotal growth phase while acting as both a technical leader and a force multiplier for the team. Beyond designing foundational infrastructure, you will mentor high-performing engineers, establish operational rigor, and partner directly with product managers and cross-functional teams to shape both our engineering roadmap and product vision. If you are excited to build the foundational systems that make high-quality mental healthcare accessible for everyone, this role is for you.\nRequired Qualifications\n4+ years of related professional experience\n\nExperience building distributed and event driven systems.\n\nExperience with microservice development\n\nExperience working on cross-functional teams to bridge the gap between technical and non-technical stakeholders\n\nFluency in AI assisted development tools and frameworks. Able to leverage AI assisted coding tools to improve velocity and automate boilerplate tasks while setting and maintaining the right quality guardrails\n\nExperience mentoring others, reviewing architectures, and establishing design patterns.\n\nPreferred Qualifications\nDegree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience\n\nExperience being on-call and driving sustainable operational improvements in a customer facing product\n\nPrior experience in early-stage and/or high-growth startup environments\n\nPrevious experience in products with high reliability/accuracy requirements (finance, healthcare, mission critical systems, etc.)\n\nExperience with NodeJs and Kafka\n\nWe're serious about your well-being!
