This role plays a key part in ensuring efficient routing, truck and equipment management, driver training support, and oversight of cart and trailer loading practices. While not a supervisory position, the Head Driver serves as a liaison between management and the driver team—helping to communicate directives, relay updates, and ensure alignment with operational expectations while maintaining a high standard of safety and operational excellence. While this role does not include hiring, firing, or disciplinary authority, it requires strong peer leadership and communication skills to maintain smooth daily operations.\n\nKey Responsibilities\nServe as the Transportation Supervisor’s point of contact, observing operations closely and communicating all relevant information. \nSafely operate and oversee vehicles and equipment, ensuring strict adherence to all traffic rules and safety regulations.\nModel expected behaviors, applying sound judgment and maintaining a proactive approach to address team needs and operational demands.\nCommunicate effectively and consistently with driver teams and supervisors to ensure clear understanding of expectations and updates.\nDevelop driver teams through coaching and training, identifying and addressing specific training needs.\nOversee and optimize driver routing, resolve route-related issues, and promote efficient trailer loading and unloading.\nHelp coordinate daily transportation activities, including donor service, fleet maintenance, and support of retail store delivery needs.\nConduct regular safety meetings and inspections to prioritize compliance with all safety guidelines.\nComplete pickup routes as needed, alongside other responsibilities to support team and operational goals.\nMaintain a clear understanding of company goals and mission, communicating these to team members as well as donors.\nAttend required training sessions and meetings to enhance skills and stay informed of organizational policies and updates.\n\nQualifications\nExperience with systems overseeing routing, tracking, and the management of trailers and fleet maintenance, along with a fundamental knowledge of Microsoft Office is preferred\nValid driver's license\nClean driving record and ability to pass a motor vehicle records check\nAbility to operate a box truck in a safe and efficient manner\nKnowledge of traffic laws and regulations related to driving a large commercial vehicle\nAbility to work independently and follow a set schedule\nAbility to maneuver the truck in tight spaces and operate the box truck used to pick up donations\nFlexibility in schedule to accommodate changes in pickup routes or schedules\nHigh school diploma or GED preferred\n\nPhysical Requirements\nAbility to lift up to 70 pounds and carry it for short distances\nPhysical stamina to stand, walk, climb, and bend for extended periods of time\nAbility to operate heavy machinery, including box trucks and compactors\nVisual acuity to read road signs, maps, and operating instructions\nGood hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity for operating truck controls and handling bags and boxes\nStrong back and abdominal muscles to maintain proper posture while operating equipment and lifting heavy objects\nAbility to work in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and snow\nGood hearing to detect warning signals and communicate effectively with coworkers and supervisors\nMust be able to pass a pre-employment health screening and motor vehicles record check\n\nWork Environment\nAtmosphere: The work environment is dynamic and characterized by a consistently busy atmosphere.
