This position within the BESS Technology Optimization team will be responsible for managing technical solutions with a project development mindset and ensuring utility-scale energy storage projects are built with state-of-the-art technology and design features and can fulfill dispatch and use cases for evolving market conditions.\nRole Responsibilities:\nSupport and drive strategic planning that impacts product selection, technology roadmap, or project standardization\nContribute to the evaluation of emerging storage technologies with a focus on long-duration capability, cost reduction, reliability, and lifecycle performance\nParticipate in continuous improvement of standard project designs, driving optimization in cost, performance, constructability, and operational reliability\nCoordinate priorities with Development, Procurement, and EPC to align engineering and business needs\nParticipate in enterprise forums and technical steering committees\nAbility to identify, evaluate, and resolve complex problems with limited oversight\nProvide technical due diligence support for storage suppliers or new equipment introductions\nInfluence system architecture standards and performance expectations across projects\nContribute to internal development of energy storage system designs, including cooling system architecture (air and liquid), controls strategy, and thermal performance modeling\nMentor junior engineers and establish best practices for product evaluation, testing, reporting, and safety compliance\nJob Requirements and Experiences:\nMaster’s degree in engineering from an accredited college or university preferred\nBachelor's degree in engineering is required\nA minimum of 7 years of proven experience with energy storage technologies, with an understanding of OEMs, products, and use cases\nProven product management and product development experience\nIntellectually curious with a passion for exploring emerging energy storage technologies and challenging conventional approaches\nOpen-minded and receptive to diverse perspectives, data-driven decision-making, and continuous learning\nExperience mentoring engineers and technical resources and ability to drive high performance and cultivate talent\nProven ability to empathize, build relationships, and effectively communicate with people from a diverse set of backgrounds\nWork Environment:\nThis position is an office-based role with some travel and visits to other RWE Americas offices and field locations. The employee must be able to sit, walk, or stand for long durations of time.\nApplicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States. RWE Americas is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of employment visas at this time.\nPay range: The annual base salary range for this position in Illinois is $140,000 - $150,000.
