This includes researching tax & assessment issues, legal issues, regulatory issues, reconciling databases, and completing detailed calculations. The taxing authority verifies the issues, and the Consultant assists the team with this process. The Consultant is responsible for creating positive team member experiences, which lead to excellent client service and drive revenue and profit for the Firm.The ideal candidate with have analytical and problem-solving skills, coupled with strong people skills. The successful candidate will be effective in researching issues, reconciling databases, and completing detailed calculations. A Licensee of the Law Society of Ontario in good standing will also be a requirement. Successful Ryan team members embrace and live Ryan’s values of Pursue Excellence, Wired to Win, Generosity Matters, Build Trust and Integrity Always and will embody and demonstrate accountability.\nDuties and responsibilities, as they align to Ryan’s Key Results\nPeople:\nCreate a positive team member experience.\nClient:\nResponds to client inquiries and requests from tax authorities.\nValue:\nWorks effectively with clients and taxing authorities on a national basis.\nAttend client meetings, property inspections, hearings, mediations, and other proceedings, as required.\nReviews client property tax records.\nApplies software knowledge to efficiently work with client data.\nMaintain accurate and timely records of matters, communications, filings, and deliverables.\nResearches legal, regulatory, valuation, and tax issues relevant to property tax matters.\nPrepares and reviews property reports and renditions, appeal documents, evidence, and written submissions.\nAnalyzes assessment notices and determines potential assessment reductions.\nFiles appeals.\nDetermines liability for development projects.\nWorks with tax incentive issues for clients.\nInteracts frequently with members of a team.\nCommunicates effectively through written and verbal channels.\nPerforms other duties as assigned.\nEducation and Experience:\nLicensee of the Law Society of Ontario in good standing.\nB.A. or Paralegal Diploma\nApproximately one to two years of relevant experience in tax advocacy, property tax, municipal law, administrative law, real estate law, litigation, or a related practice area, is valued .\nExperience preparing legal submissions, appeals, applications, briefs, or other advocacy materials.\nExperience appearing before or communicating with assessment authorities, tribunals, boards, municipalities, or other government bodies is preferred.\nStrong legal research, analytical, advocacy, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.\nRelevant work experience preferred (e.g. internships, summer positions, school jobs) or Bachelor's degree and one to three years audit or tax related experience.\nDesire to perform in a high-energy team environment.\nDemonstrated leadership, problem solving, and strong verbal and written communication skills.\nAbility to prioritize tasks, work on multiple assignments, and manage ambiguity. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team with professionals at all levels.\nComputer Skills:\nTo perform this job successfully, an individual must have intermediate knowledge of Microsoft® Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Internet navigation and research.\nCertificates and Licenses:\nValid driver’s license required.\nActive Law Society of Ontario license, in good standing.\nSupervisory Responsibilities:\nThis position has no supervisory responsibilities.\nWork Environment:\nStandard indoor working environment.\nOccasional long periods of sitting while working at computer.\nPosition requires regular interaction with employees at all levels of the Firm in person and via e-mail and telephone.\nPosition requires regular interaction with clients and interface with external vendors in person and via e-mail and telephone. \nIndependent travel requirement: Up to 10-20%. \nCompensation:\nFor Ontario based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $50,000 - $64,700.\nThe Firm makes offers based on many factors, including qualifications and experience.
