The Accounting Manager combines hands-on accounting with people leadership, overseeing the month-end close, branch financials and KPIs, and the administrative team handling AR, billing, purchasing, AP, payroll, and job costing.\nWhat You'll Do\nPrepare and review the monthly financial package for the branch by Department, including KPIs; identify trends, variances, and areas of concern.\nLead monthly financial meetings with branch leadership, including quarterly KPI deep dives and market comparisons.\nManage the month-end and year-end close processes, including reconciliations, inventory, accruals, and branch financial statements.\nPrepare and file state sales/use tax returns and maintain sales tax compliance for the branch.\nPerform and review bank reconciliations and general ledger account analyses.\nRecord fixed asset accounting, including additions, disposals, depreciation schedules; work with the Fleet Manager to support fleet activities.\nSupervise and supplement the administrative team in processing accounts receivable, billing, purchasing, accounts payable, payroll, and job costing to ensure the general ledger is consistent with company policies and generally accepted accounting principles.\nAssign and prioritize team workload to ensure deadlines are met; provide training and guidance on accounting policies, procedures, and systems.\nMentor and develop accounting and administrative team members, including conducting performance reviews and supporting employee growth.\nReview job costing to confirm budget vs. actual results for time, material, and profitability; report outliers to production and sales leadership for resolution.\nPrepare, manage, and report the annual branch budget by Department; monitor and explain budget vs. actual results.\nDevelop and maintain a dashboard of key financial indicators for branch and company leadership.\nMonitor internal controls and recommend improvements as needed.\nSupport year-end audit, tax preparation, and corporate reporting requirements in coordination with corporate accounting.\nAttend company meetings as requested for overall company development.\nPromote, demonstrate, and enforce company policies and financial controls.\nSupport and enforce RJ Lawn & Landscape vision, mission, and core values.\nPromote, demonstrate and enforce safety procedures & company policies.\nShare ideas and process improvement suggestions to propel the team forward.\nSpecial projects as assigned.\nRequirements\nWhat We're Looking For\nRequired:\nPass a background check and pre-employment drug screening.\nMaintain a valid driver's license.\nBS or MS in Accounting, Finance, or related field.\n3+ years of progressive accounting experience, including supervising others and prioritizing timelines for completion.\nStrong understanding of and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).\nProficiency in accounting processes, procedures, and controls, including the ability to perform and review general ledger account analyses and reconciliations.\nExperience with month-end close, sales/use tax, bank reconciliations, and financial analysis.\nProficiency with accounting/ERP system technologies.\nCommunicate clearly and professionally in both written and verbal form, including explaining financial information to non-financial audiences.\nAbility to work with cross-functional teams, utilizing analytical and problem-solving skills to meet deadlines.\nMaintain adaptability and organization while managing competing priorities, with flexibility during month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close periods.\nPreferred:\nJob cost or construction accounting background.\nMulti-location or multi-entity accounting experience.\nExposure to Landscape, horticulture, or related field service operations.\nLifelong learner with an inquisitive nature;
