The work is project-based and sometimes requires the team to spend time onsite at client facilities, working with engineers, scientists and technical personnel. This role includes performing and supervising tasks such as researching tax law, documenting expense treatment, and completing detailed models and calculations.Duties and Responsibilities:\nPeople:\nProvides leadership, guidance, coaching and mentoring to a team of Managers and Consultants.\nAlong with principal and practice leader performs strategic planning, operational oversight, staff administration, and performance evaluation. \nClient:\nInterviews clients, uncovering all SR&ED eligible projects and all information required to prepare the T661 filing.\nPrepares or supervises the preparation of the technical narratives for SR&ED tax credit claims of clients. This will also include the identification of specific employees, subcontractors and material expended in connection with the eligible activities identified, and determining the amount of effort relating thereto.\nAdvises and supports clients before and during any CRA technical review for SR&ED tax credit claims, and responds to correspondence that is initiated by CRA arguing technology aspects of the submitted SR&ED claim, if any.\nGathers samples of client supporting documents as claim(s) are prepared.\nCollaborates with the firm’s key technical advisors on an ongoing development of the firm’s tools for preparing SR&ED claims.\nTracks time by client and activity codes and provides analysis to Principals on engagement level economics.\nValue:\nCreates forecasts for future claims and allocates work to team members accordingly.\nSupports the team in the research of SR&ED tax court cases for client eligibility, developing training sessions based on this research.\nAssists the Principal and Client Services team in preparing client presentations for proposals, planning strategies, and ideas.\nLeverages experience and knowledge to maintain and/or attract new clients in various fields.\nMakes presentations on SR&ED at Ryan’s formal training with clients, internal meetings and industry events.\nMeets and develops relationships with CRA auditors on an on-going basis.\nContributes to keeping the firm’s SR&ED tax law knowledge base current.\nPerforms other duties as assigned.\nEducation and Experience:\nMaster's or PhD degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical or related disciplines) or Science (Chemistry, Physics, or related disciplines), related industry experience, and a minimum six years of SR&ED tax credit experience required.
