As a Staff Backend Engineer, you’ll help build and strengthen that foundation.\nYou’ll take ownership of complex projects from the first technical decisions through launch and whatever comes next. Since we’re a small team, you’ll work directly with people across the business and have a clear view of how the things you build affect our members and the teams supporting them.\nWe’re looking for someone who can look at a messy problem, figure out what actually matters, and build a solution that works today without creating headaches down the road. You’ll have a real voice in our backend architecture and engineering practices, but this is still very much a hands-on role. You’ll spend most of your time designing systems, writing code, and improving the platform alongside the rest of the team.\nWHAT YOU’LL DO\nDesign, build, and own reliable backend services and APIs that support Rythm's products and internal operations.\nOwn complex projects from technical discovery and architecture through implementation, launch and iteration.\nBuild systems that connect member experiences with laboratory, logistics, billing, analytics, and other operational workflows.\nMake architectural decisions that balance delivery speed, maintainability, performance, security, and scale.\nImprove service reliability through thoughtful testing, observability, incident response, and operational practices.\nPartner with mobile and product engineers to define clear contracts, scalable data flows, and dependable integrations.\nIdentify technical risks and reduce unnecessary complexity across the platform.\nHelp establish and evolve development standards and tools as the engineering team continues to grow.\nUse modern development tools, including AI-assisted workflows, to increase engineering quality and speed. \nWHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR\nExtensive experience designing, building and owning backend systems at scale.\nA proven track record of owning complex, cross-functional initiatives.\nExperience integrating internal systems and third-party platforms across complex business workflows.\nStrong understanding of testing, observability, performance, security, and production operations.\nThe ability to move between long-term architecture and immediate delivery needs.\nStrong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both technical and nontechnical partners.\nA hands-on mindset;
