It has major operations all over the world and is part of the domestic defence capability of several nations.\nThe Role:\nWe are looking for an experienced management accountant looking to step into a controller role. Reporting into our Head of Finance, you will provide experienced operational ownership of accounting, financial control and assigned compliance delivery within Saab UK Finance. Deliver a reliable month-end work routine, maintain balance sheet quality, coordinate audit activity and ensure processes operate with appropriate controls.\nProvide documented assurance to the Head of Finance on compliance, reporting accuracy, controls and audit readiness, enabling the Head of Finance to focus on governance, transformation and Finance effectiveness.\nWork closely with Accounting Services in Sweden to ensure effective collaboration, continuous improvement, operational efficiency and high-quality service delivery across accounting and reporting processes.\nThe Financial Controller acts as the operational owner of financial control and compliance processes and is responsible for delivering assurance to the Head of Finance.\nThe Head of Finance remains accountable for governance, compliance oversight, tax oversight and finance effectiveness.\nKey Responsibilities:\nMonth-End and Accounting Delivery:\nOwn and coordinate the operational close work routines. \nPrepare or coordinate assigned journals, accruals, allocations and other accounting activities. \nReview accounting outputs and resolve or escalate exceptions. \nMaintain close procedures, audit trails and cover arrangements. \nReconciliations and Balance Sheet Quality:\nOwn operational reconciliation completion, review and evidence retention. \nEnsure balances are supported and reconciling items have clear owners and resolution dates. \nReview aged, unsupported or unusual balances and coordinate corrective action. \nMaintain accounting integrity through investigation and documented resolution of issues. \nReview accounting treatment, presentation and classification of material transactions and balances. \nIdentify accounting matters requiring judgement and provide recommendations to the Head of Finance. \nEscalate significant judgements and presentation matters to the Head of Finance. \nReporting:\nOwn monthly validation of assigned corporate function reporting. \nEnsure reporting reconciles to accounting records and all key review controls are evidenced. \nSupport reporting governance established by the Head of Finance. \nAnalyse reporting outputs to identify trends, risks and opportunities for improvement. \nEscalate significant reporting concerns and emerging risks promptly. \nMonthly Assurance Reporting:\nFinancial close completion. \nReconciliation status. \nVAT and PAYE compliance. \nInternal control completion. \nAudit readiness. \nSignificant accounting matters. \nBalance sheet risks. \nEmerging compliance risks. \nCompliance Execution:\nOwn preparation, coordination and submission of assigned VAT returns, reconciliations, supporting evidence and internal controls and checks. \nCoordinate PAYE payment preparation, reconciliations and compliance checks within the agreed remit. \nOwn and post payroll journal preparation or coordination and discrepancy investigation. \nCoordinate P11D preparation and supporting information where applicable. \nSupport the ICM calendar, deadlines, evidence and escalation arrangements. \nEscalate uncertain tax treatments and significant compliance risks and support specialist advice where required. \nSupport and operate assigned controls under the approved framework. \nSupport maintenance of tax control frameworks and provision of evidence required for tax governance and Senior Accounting Officer (SAO) compliance activities where applicable. \nAudit Coordination:\nCoordinate assigned audit activities, manage the audit request tracker. \nCoordinate audit schedules, supporting documents and evidence collection. \nCoordinate preparation of statutory account support schedules and disclosures. \nEnsure evidence is accurate, complete and accessible. \nTrack audit actions and coordinate agreed remediation. \nReport progress, overdue requests and emerging issues to the Head of Finance. \nContribution and Continuous Improvement:\nWork closely with Accounting Services in Sweden, ensuring effective communication, alignment of priorities and timely resolution of accounting matters. \nIdentify opportunities to simplify, standardise and improve financial processes, controls, reporting and overall operational effectiveness. \nShare best practices, challenge existing ways of working and support Finance transformation initiatives that enhance efficiency, scalability and reporting quality. \nProvide recommendations that strengthen controls, improve decision-useful reporting and deliver cost-effective outcomes across the Finance function \nAssurance and Communication:\nProvide evidence-based assurance that allows the Head of Finance to oversee outcomes without routinely repeating the work. \nMaintain oversight of key statutory, compliance and reporting obligations, providing early visibility of risks, material issues, control deficiencies and potential delivery constraints to enable timely management action. \nCommunicate priorities, deadlines and emerging risks. \nExperience and Skills:\nRecognised professional accountancy qualification. \nSignificant hands-on financial accounting or financial control experience. \nDemonstrable ownership of closing tasks, reconciliations and balance sheet review. \nPractical experience of relevant UK VAT, PAYE and payroll accounting processes. \nExperience of audit coordination. \nStrong understanding of accounting integrity. \nStrong analytical skills and proficiency in spreadsheets. \nAbility to coordinate colleagues. \nClear communication, sound judgement and disciplined deadline management. \nDemonstrated ability to identify and implement process improvements, challenge existing ways of working and drive greater efficiency and effectiveness. \nStrong stakeholder management skills and the ability to work effectively with shared service organisations and cross-functional teams. \nA continuous improvement mindset with a proactive approach to developing smarter, more efficient ways of
