Its headquarters are in Cape Town, while its telescopes are at Sutherland in the semi-arid Northern Cape. Distributed between the two sites, SAAO employs roughly 130 people, many of them scientists and engineers, and is contracted to operate the 10-m Southern African Large Telescope (SALT), on behalf of the international SALT Foundation. Africa.\nPosition summaryThe South African Astronomical Observatory (SAAO) is seeking qualified candidates for the position of IT Support Technician Desktop support for SAAO staff in Cape Town.\nKey responsibilitiesSupport desktop computer, laptops and , as well as support of remote office.\nTroubleshoot basic network connectivity\nVideo conferencing experience, particularly around setup, maintenance and troubleshooting.\nPrinter Support\nStandby Duties in Cape Town and Sutherland\nInstallation of hardware for desktops and laptops\nInstall hardware and software on Linux, windows\nInstallation of network equipment\nResponding to tickets on the ticketing system\nWi-Fi support\nSupport desktop application like MS Office and others\nQualificationsNational Diploma in IT or Related Field\nKnowledgeWindows (7,10,11)\nLinux\nApple Mac OS\nEmail systems like Gmail and outlook or Zimbra\nVirtualisation\nDNS\nDHCP\nExperience2 years’ experience as a support technician\nExperience with troubleshooting, setting up, and managing Windows and Linux machines\nExperience with VPN server and client configuration (across different platforms), IP Phones (SIP), printer configurations, configuring and troubleshooting cloud-based Office 365 Suite as well as local installation.\nExperience SSO, SSH.\nAdditional notesADDITIONAL EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE &
