Provide the planning and development of the database, as well as troubleshooting any issues on behalf of the users. Ensure that data remains consistent across the database, data is clearly defined, users access data concurrently, in a form that suits their needs, there is provision for data security and recovery control (ensuring all data is retrievable in an emergency). Provide an effective and secure database infrastructure for the South African Broadcasting Corporation nationally ensuring availability, safety, security, storage, recoverability, and integrity of databases.\nKEY ACCOUNTABILITIES\nDEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION OF STRATEGY\nPerform Database design, interactive applications with an objective to meet business strategies. \nProvide technical advice in support of the IT strategy for development and DevOps services. \nCollaborate with the appropriate internal departments and external customers to understand the business needs and / or customer requirements. \nProvides technical problem-solving leadership in complex operational troubleshooting. \nParticipate in determining the most effective solution architecture and taxonomies to address identified business requirements and maximize search capability. \nIdentify and address any architectural deficiencies. \nUse development languages and tools to write, edit, maintain, and test computer software in line with business goals. \nStrive to obtain Systems and Database availability of 99.98% uptime. \nAdminister Operating Systems, Database, and ensure Backup and Recovery processes is in place and adhered too. \nConduct upgrades as per project plans with minimal disruption to broadcast and business activities.\nBUSINESS OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCY\nEstablish the needs of users and monitor user access and security.\nMonitor performance and manage parameters to provide fast responses to front-end users.\nMap out the conceptual design for a planned database.\nConsider both back-end organisation of data and front-end accessibility for end-users.\nInstall and configure software and hardware.\nManage servers and technology tools.\nSet up accounts and servers.\nMonitor performance, maintain systems and capacity management according to requirements.\nTroubleshoot issues and outages.\nGOVERNANCE RISK AND COMPLIANCE\nContribute to the upkeep of a risk register to address risk issues. \nIdentify, analyse, respond to, and monitor IT risks. \nDrive consistency in deployment and usage, including taxonomies, templates, master pages and security. \nCoordinate responses to procurement RFIRFPs and client information platform related questionnaires. \nProvide responses to Internal and External Audit RFI’s \nAddress Risk factors and events in a cost-effective manner. \nManage tracking of identified findings and actions to closure and report to leadership. \nComply with SABC Financial Policy & Procedures \nParticipate in organisational OHS risks & secure the health, safety, and welfare of employees. \nTo become a Risk Intelligent Organisation with solid Governance Practices\nSTAKEHOLDER MANAGEMENT\nPartner with Legal and Compliance to maintain compliance with applicable laws and change in business by establishing the policies, controls that comprise the program. \nExecute customer experience management processes and Increase customer service index. \nDevelop proficiency in communicating with customers and ensure key interactions are recorded. \nTake ownership of technical queries (internal/external) as assigned and ensure resolution before deadline. \nDevelop and manage schedules that are aligned to customer SLA’s and proactively manage exceptions. \nProvide monthly SLA reports to IT leaders and business customers.\nLEADERSHIP AND PEOPLE MANAGEMENT\nManaging own performance and development. \nMeet IT performance & quality standards. \nParticipating in formal reviews conducted bi-annually per IT unit team member in accordance with SABC Performance Management Policy \nCompile Individual Development Plan (IDP) for yourself annually. \nParticipating in Individual coaching, counselling, and mentoring conducted on an ongoing basis to meet individual development needs. \nAttend Training & Development in accordance with WSP. \nOn-going and accurate identification of development needs of junior staff. \nTransfer of identified skills & knowledge in accordance with job mentoring best practice.\nMINIMUM REQUIREMENTS\nRelevant IT NQF 6 qualification\n5 years’ experience as Database administrator within a corporate IT environment. \nFamiliarity with database design, coding, and documentation. \nKnowledge of database backup procedures, recovery systems, and SQL. \nKnowledge of programming languages and API. \nExcellent communication and problem-solving skills.\nKNOWLEDGE\nWorking knowledge & understanding of core SABC business \nWorking knowledge & understanding of Infrastructure best practice \nWorking knowledge, understanding & application of information technology best practice (including platforms, applications, security, etc.) \nKnowledge & understanding of all relevant Company Policies & Procedures e.g., Finance, HR, Procurement, Risk, Safety & Health, etc. \nBasic understanding of contracts and contract
