Together, we are transforming lives for a digital future.\nRole purpose:\nThe role holder is responsible for providing hands-on technical support for the end-to-end development and operation of the company’s Credit Scoring capability.\nReporting to the Credit Scoring Manager, the role prepares, processes and analyzes GSM, M-PESA, repayment and external data required for credit scoring, and supports the development, testing, deployment and monitoring of machine-learning and analytical models.\nThe role works closely with Data, Product, Portfolio and Technology teams to ensure that reliable and production-ready data and models are available to support automated credit decisioning and continuous improvement of Credit Products.\n Key accountabilities and decision ownership:\nData Preparation & Engineering\nExtract, transform and load data required for Credit Scoring from GSM, M-PESA, repayment, customer and external data sources.\n\nClean, structure and prepare datasets for model development, validation and production use.\n\nDevelop and maintain data pipelines supporting Credit Scoring and decisioning.\n\nPerform data quality checks and identify missing, inconsistent or anomalous data.\n\nSupport integration and preparation of new internal and external data sources.\n\nCredit Scoring & Machine Learning\nDevelop and test features used for credit scoring, customer segmentation and risk assessment.\n\nSupport development, training, validation and back-testing of machine-learning and statistical models.\n\nAnalyze customer behaviour, repayment patterns and portfolio performance to identify predictive variables.\n\nSupport model tuning, performance evaluation and comparison of alternative modelling approaches.\n\nImplement scoring logic and models into production environments in coordination with relevant Technology teams\n\nModel Operations & Monitoring\nSupport deployment, version control and ongoing operation of Credit Scoring models.\n\nMonitor model performance, data drift and changes in customer or portfolio behaviour.\n\nSupport model retraining and enhancement based on new data and actual repayment outcomes.\n\nInvestigate model or data issues affecting scoring accuracy or credit decisioning.\n\nMaintain appropriate technical documentation for datasets, features, models and pipelines.\n\nAnalytics & Business Support\nProvide analytical support to the Credit Scoring Manager and Product & Portfolio teams.\n\nConduct analysis on approval rates, repayment performance, customer segments and credit risk indicators.\n\nSupport testing of changes to eligibility rules, credit limits, decision rules and scoring strategies.\n\nTranslate analytical findings into actionable inputs for Credit Product and portfolio optimization.\n\nKey performance indicator:\nTimeliness and quality of Credit Scoring datasets and data pipelines.\nAccuracy and reliability of data preparation and feature engineering.\nModel development and deployment cycle time.\nStability and performance of production scoring models.\nEffectiveness of model monitoring and issue resolution.\nSuccessful integration of new internal and external data sources.\nAutomation of data preparation, scoring and model monitoring processes.\nCore competencies, knowledge and experience:\n2 - 4 years of experience in Machine Learning, Data Science, Data Engineering, Analytics or related technical roles.\n\nHands-on experience preparing large datasets for analytical and machine-learning use.\n\nStrong understanding of supervised learning, classification models and model evaluation techniques.\n\nExperience with feature engineering, model validation and performance monitoring.\n\nStrong SQL and Python skills.\n\nExperience with ETL, data pipelines and data processing frameworks.\n\nAbility to work with transactional, behavioral and time-series data.\n\nStrong analytical and problem-solving skills.\n\nAbility to work effectively with both technical and business stakeholders.\n\nMust have technical / professional qualifications:\nBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering or related field.\nStrong programming skills in Python and SQL.\nExperience with machine-learning libraries and analytical tools.\nExperience working with relational databases, data warehouses or data lake environments.\nUnderstanding of model development, validation and production deployment.\nGood written and verbal communication skills in English.\nDesired\nExperience in Credit Scoring, Digital Lending, Banking, FinTech, Telecommunications or Mobile Financial Services.\nExperience working with GSM, mobile wallet, transactional or alternative data.\nExperience with cloud-based data and machine-learning environments.\nExperience with MLOps, model monitoring and automated deployment pipelines.\nUnderstanding of credit risk concepts such as default, delinquency, NPLs and repayment behaviour.\nHow to Apply.
