We make fleet vehicles - and everyone in and around them - safer. Our fleet safety platform brings together best-in-class products, ground-breaking technology, and a 100-year history of fleet know-how and innovation to solve the world’s biggest fleet safety problems.\nOur core value is safety. Without safety first, efficiency and productivity are not possible. This is true for our products, our culture, and our relationship with our community. Our vision is to reduce preventable deaths and injuries in and around fleet vehicles with a goal of ZERO accidents.\nWe are re-defining what safety means for fleets of every type - from school buses to waste collection trucks, firefighting to utility vehicles, police cruisers to delivery vans.\nWhether you work in our Charlotte plant to build life-saving stop arms for school buses, or design advanced camera vision products in our Vancouver office, forge valves and high-quality nozzles to fight fires, or dream up new ways to protect fleet operators in our Corporate HQ in Kansas City, you’ll contribute to our goal to keep everyone safe.\nWe are a fast-growing manufacturing, service, and technology company with over 1700 employees in over 15 locations across Canada and the US. We’re looking for motivated self-starters with innovative thinking to join our team and help us achieve our growth and performance goals. Sound like you?\nABOUT THIS ROLE\nWe are looking for a hands-on Senior AI Engineer to build the platform that makes that possible - the shared services, agent framework, standards and tooling that allow every engineer on the team to build and operate AI agents of their own.\nThis is a builder and enabler role, not a research role. You will modernise our AI stack, create reusable AI services and agent infrastructure, automate critical operational workflows, and raise the AI capability of the engineers around you. Success is measured by what the rest of the team can build because of the foundation you put in place.\nYou will also apply AI-Native Engineering and Agentic SDLC practices to your own work - using AI coding agents, Spec-Driven Development and automation to accelerate delivery while holding a high bar for quality, security and maintainability - and establish those practices as the team standard.\nFrom time to time you may contribute to customer-facing AI capabilities in our product portfolio, but the centre of this role is internal platform, enablement and automation.\nRESPONSIBILITIES\nAI Platform and Shared Services\nBuild the foundation other engineers build on - reusable AI services, agent scaffolding, shared libraries, prompt and context management, and integration patterns that let the team create agents without reinventing the groundwork.\nModernise and own SafeFleet’s AI stack: model selection and routing, provider abstraction, cost and token governance, and a clear upgrade path as the technology moves.\nDesign and implement RAG architectures, retrieval and indexing pipelines, and the data access patterns agents depend on.\nBuild Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers and tool integrations that expose internal systems safely to agents.\nEstablish AI evaluation, observability and guardrails - eval harnesses, regression testing for prompts and agents, tracing, quality and cost monitoring in production.\nDevelop robust backend services and APIs that make AI capability consumable across teams.\nOperational Automation\nAutomate critical operational workflows using AI - partnering with teams across Cloud Engineering to identify high-toil processes and replace them with reliable, auditable agent-driven automation.\nBuild agents and workflows that support areas such as diagnostics, triage, routine remediation, documentation and operational reporting.\nDefine governance for autonomous action: guardrails, human-in-the-loop checkpoints, failure modes and auditability.\nEnablement and Technical Leadership\nMentor the engineering team on its AI journey - through pairing, workshops, documented patterns, internal guides and worked examples that move the whole group forward.\nSet AI engineering standards: architecture patterns, prompt and agent design conventions, testing expectations, security and data-handling practice.\nLead architecture and design discussions, review AI-related work, and act as the technical reference point for AI across Cloud Engineering.\nAI-Native Engineering and Agentic SDLC\nApply AI-Native Engineering throughout the development lifecycle, using AI coding agents, Spec-Driven Development and automation to accelerate delivery.\nBuild custom AI coding agents, reusable agent skills and automated workflows for implementation, testing, verification, code review and release.\nIntegrate agent-assisted verification into CI/CD, and continuously improve Agentic SDLC practice as a team-wide standard.\nSalary Range: $120,000 - $135,000/yr\nThe final offer will be determined based on a combination of factors including skills, experience, and alignment with the role’s responsibilities.\nCandidates at the lower end of the range will meet the core qualifications and demonstrate strong potential to grow within the role.\nMid-range offers reflect a solid match with the role’s technical and collaborative requirements.\nOffers at the top of the range are reserved for candidates who bring exceptional qualifications, specialized expertise, or unique value that significantly exceeds the baseline expectations\nAt Safefleet, we are an equal opportunity employer that is committed to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace where everyone is valued and respected. We embrace diversity and do not discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, or any other legally protected status. We promote fair and equitable hiring practices and foster a culture of inclusivity and respect. Our core values of integrity, innovation, teamwork, customer focus, and safety guide our efforts to provide a workplace where all employees can thrive and reach their full potential.\n\nRequirements\n6+ years of professional software engineering experience, with strong system design and software architecture skills.\nProven hands-on experience building and deploying AI-powered systems in production - not prototypes or proofs of concept.\nSolid command of LLMs and transformer-based models, prompt engineering, RAG architectures, AI agents and workflow orchestration.\nExperience with modern AI platforms and services such as Azure OpenAI, OpenAI, Claude, Google Gemini or equivalent.\nStrong backend and cloud engineering experience, with hands-on Microsoft Azure - our primary environment. Substantial AWS or GCP background is considered where it transfers.\nPractical knowledge of Data Science and Machine Learning fundamentals, including model evaluation and performance trade-offs.\nProficiency with AI coding agents such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor or equivalent, used as part of your daily engineering practice.\nHands-on experience with AI-Native Engineering and Agentic SDLC - Spec-Driven Development, agent-assisted implementation, automated testing and verification, and development automation.\nDemonstrated ability to enable others - mentoring engineers, writing the patterns and documentation people actually use, and raising the technical capability of a team.\nStrong problem-solving, communication and cross-functional collaboration skills, including advanced English for technical discussion with distributed teams and senior stakeholders.\nPreferred\nExperience building reusable AI services, shared AI platforms or internal developer platforms.\nExperience with AI agent orchestration frameworks and production ML pipelines.\nExperience with Model Context Protocol (MCP), local or self-hosted models, and Hugging Face.\nExperience developing custom AI coding agents, reusable agent skills, automated verification and CI/CD integration.\nExperience applying AI to infrastructure, operations or reliability workflows.\nExperience with Computer Vision, image or video analytics, deep learning or predictive Machine Learning.\nExperience delivering AI-powered features in commercial software products.\nFamiliarity with Agile delivery and experience in regulated or security-conscious environments.","description_format":"text","description_chars":8349,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":6,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":null,"security_clearance":false,"languages":[{"language":"English","level":"Advanced (C1)","optional":false}]},"benefits":[],"hiring_locations":[{"name":"Canada","iso":"CA","kind":"country"}],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Fleet Management","Law Enforcement","Video Surveillance","Safety & Protective Equipment"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-10-29T14:25:37Z"}],"visa":[],"liveness":{"score":90,"band":"hot","label":"Hiring now","p_open":1,"p_active":0.903,"p_room":1,"age_days":4,"expected_fill_days":33,"reasons":["conf:3","velocity","win:early"],"computed_at":"2026-11-03T05:54:40Z"},"pay":{"stated_usd_annual":96187,"is_top_pay":false},"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/safe-fleet-senior-ai-engineer","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/safe-fleet-senior-ai-engineer.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-11-04T06:05:01Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"crawler_verified","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":9429,"day_limit":null,"remaining_today":null,"minute_limit":300,"resets_at":"2026-11-05T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":2875979},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=2875979"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Fsafe-fleet-senior-ai-engineer"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Fsafe-fleet-senior-ai-engineer"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Fsafe-fleet-senior-ai-engineer"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/safe-fleet-senior-ai-engineer\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Fsafe-fleet-senior-ai-engineer"}],"agent":{"mcp":"https://alion.io/mcp/jobs","mcp_open":"https://alion.io/mcp/open","next":[{"tool":"get_job","arguments":{"id":3462639}},{"tool":"search_jobs","arguments":{"company":"safefleet.net","detail":"compact"}},{"tool":"match_people","arguments":{"job_id":3462639},"note":"people open to offers who fit this vacancy"}],"note":"The same data through MCP tools: https://alion.io/mcp/open needs no sign-in (compact searches, postings, people); https://alion.io/mcp with an Alion account has everything.
