We're looking for a Legal Counsel to join Sage's Product & Technology Legal team, providing practical, outcome-focused legal support across our global product organisation.\nIn this role, you'll act as a trusted adviser to product, engineering and go-to-market teams, helping accelerate the design, development and launch of Sage solutions while appropriately managing legal risk. You'll advise on a range of technology-related matters including artificial intelligence, intellectual property, data privacy, financial services considerations and the integration of third-party technologies.\nThis is an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of innovation, supporting emerging technologies including generative and agentic AI, while helping to shape how legal services are delivered in a modern, technology-driven environment.\nOverview of the Team\nThe Product & Technology Legal team sits within Sage's Office of the General Counsel (OGC) and partners closely with colleagues across Product, Engineering, Commercial Legal, Privacy and Security.\nWorking as an embedded business partner, you'll engage early in the product lifecycle, contributing to roadmap discussions, design reviews and product readiness activities. The team plays a key role in helping Sage deliver innovative solutions globally while ensuring legal, regulatory and compliance considerations are addressed in a pragmatic and commercially focused way.\nYou'll be part of a collaborative team that values continuous improvement, embraces new technologies and actively explores opportunities to use AI-powered tools to improve efficiency and scale legal support.\nOffice Location\nNewcastle or London\nHybrid Working - 3 days per week in our Newcastle or London office and 2 days from home.\nResponsibilities\nWhat you'll be doing\nProvide commercially focused legal advice across the solution development and product readiness lifecycle for new and existing products and services.\nPartner with product, engineering and go-to-market teams to support the delivery of innovative technology solutions.\nAdvise on artificial intelligence, intellectual property, data privacy and related technology law matters.\nDraft, review and negotiate a variety of commercial, technology, procurement and partner agreements.\nSupport the implementation of legal compliance requirements relating to products, financial services and marketing regulation.\nCreate practical guidance, training and self-service resources that enable colleagues to make informed decisions.\nCollaborate with specialist legal teams across OGC to deliver coordinated, high-quality legal support.\nIdentify opportunities to improve legal processes and leverage approved AI-powered tools to enhance efficiency and delivery.\nSupport product teams on emerging technologies, including generative and agentic AI.\nExperience you'll bring\nQualified Solicitor (or equivalent legal qualification) with a minimum of 2 years' post-qualification experience.\nExperience providing pragmatic, commercially focused legal advice, ideally within a technology-related environment.\nKnowledge of artificial intelligence, intellectual property and data privacy, including a working understanding of GDPR and the EU AI Act.\nStrong drafting, negotiation and commercial legal skills gained in-house or in private practice.\nAbility to communicate complex legal concepts clearly and effectively to non-legal stakeholders.\nStrong collaboration and relationship-building skills, with experience working across multiple teams and jurisdictions.\nA growth mindset, with enthusiasm for continuous learning, innovation and process improvement.\nExcellent analytical, problem-solving and organisational skills.\nBenefits?
