In this role, you will build and maintain the data models and pipelines that serve as the trusted foundation for reporting and analytics across SailPoint, with a particular focus on supporting our HR and People Analytics partners. You'll own data from ingestion through the reporting layer, writing the SQL, tests, documentation, and access controls that keep it accurate, secure, and easy for others to build on.\nResponsibilities:\nDesign, build, and maintain modular dbt models in BigQuery that transform raw data into clean, reliable, analysis-ready datasets.\nWrite performant, well-structured SQL, and optimize BigQuery queries and models for speed and cost.\nBuild and support data ingestion pipelines that bring data from source systems and SaaS applications, including Workday, into the warehouse.\nDevelop and maintain orchestration and scheduling for data workflows, and monitor pipelines to make sure data arrives on time and complete.\nDefine and standardize business metrics, such as headcount, attrition, and recruiting funnel measures, so the same number shows up consistently in every report and dashboard.\nImplement dbt tests, documentation, and code review practices to ensure data quality and make models easy for others to understand and extend.\nEnforce data privacy and access controls for sensitive and PII data across models, data sources, and dashboards, including Row-Level Security.\nBuild and maintain Tableau data sources and dashboards on top of your models, including operational and executive-level views used by HR and leadership.\nSupport Tableau administration for the content you own, including user permissions, publishing workflows, and refresh schedules.\nBuild datasets that support workforce analytics and forecasting use cases, such as attrition and recruiting capacity planning.\nExplore and help implement AI-assisted analytics, such as self-service query tools built on BigQuery and Google Gemini, for HR and other business partners.\nTroubleshoot data issues end to end, from source system through transformation to reporting, and drive root-cause fixes.\nContribute to CI/CD, version control, and deployment practices for the team's data projects.\nPartner with business stakeholders to gather requirements, define KPIs, and scope new data products and visualizations.\nContribute to data modeling standards, naming conventions, and reusable patterns for the broader data team.\nRequirements:\n5 - 8 years of experience in analytics engineering, data engineering, or a similar role.\nAdvanced SQL skills, including window functions, CTEs, and query performance tuning.\nHands-on experience building and maintaining data models in dbt, including tests, macros, and documentation.\nExperience working in a cloud data warehouse, preferably BigQuery.\nExperience building or supporting data pipelines and working with orchestration tools such as Airflow, Cloud Composer, or similar.\nHands-on experience with Tableau Desktop and Tableau Server or Tableau Cloud, including published data sources, calculated fields, parameters, and Row-Level Security.\nExperience working with sensitive or PII data and applying data privacy and access controls.\nProficiency with version control using Git and familiarity with CI/CD workflows.\nStrong understanding of data modeling concepts such as dimensional modeling, star schemas, granularity, and slowly changing dimensions.\nExperience gathering requirements from business users and translating them into data solutions.\nStrong attention to detail and a commitment to data accuracy.\nClear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical and executive audiences.\nPreferred:\nBachelor's degree in a STEM, business, or related field, or equivalent experience.\nExperience with HR or workforce data, such as headcount, attrition, and recruiting funnel reporting.\nExperience with Workday data, including custom reports or integrations that feed downstream analytics.\nExperience using AI tools for analytical querying or building AI-assisted self-service reporting.\nExperience with Python for data pipelines, automation, or analysis.\nExperience with data ingestion tools such as Fivetran, Airbyte, or similar.\nFamiliarity with Google Cloud Platform services beyond BigQuery.\nExperience in a SaaS or cybersecurity environment.\nPlan for Success:\nDays 1-30: Integration & Core Tech Onboarding\nFocus on gaining environment access, mapping pipeline architectures, and aligning with key stakeholders.\nTech Stack Setup: Set up your developer environment and establish full access to Google BigQuery, dbt, Git, and Tableau.\nArchitecture Mapping: Conduct a deep dive into active dbt models and data pipelines, specifically analyzing how data flows from systems like Workday into BigQuery.\nCompliance & Security: Review security protocols for PII data, focusing on Row-Level Security implementations in Tableau.\nStakeholder Alignment: Set up regular syncs with your manager, team peers, and key HR/People Analytics stakeholders.\n Days 31-60: Active Development & Core Deliverables\nTransition from learning to active execution, contributing to production code and standardizing business metrics.\nDeploy First dbt Model: Build, test, and deploy your first modular dbt model transforming raw workforce data in BigQuery.\nStandardize Metrics: Collaborate with HR partners to define and codify a core business metric (e.g., attrition or recruiting funnel metrics) within dbt.\nTableau Visualization: Develop, secure, and publish a targeted Tableau dashboard answering a specific HR operational query.\nWorkflow Support: Actively participate in the team’s Git pull request reviews and support basic data pipeline monitoring.\n Days 61-90: Autonomous Ownership & Strategic Optimization\nOperate with full autonomy, owning end-to-end projects, improving system performance, and driving innovative pilots.\nEnd-to-End Delivery: Own an analytics project from initial stakeholder requirements gathering to the final certified Tableau dashboard.\nQuery Optimization: Identify and optimize a complex BigQuery query or dbt model to improve processing speed and lower warehouse costs.\nAI Analytics Pilot: Coordinate a small prototype testing AI-assisted querying (such as using Google Gemini on BigQuery) for business users.\nCross-Functional Scope: Extend analytical support to other business verticals beyond HR as team priorities shift.\nBenefits and Compensation listed vary based on the location of your employment and the nature of your employment with SailPoint.\nAs a part of the total compensation package, this role may be eligible for the SailPoint Corporate Bonus Plan or a role-specific commission, along with potential eligibility for equity participation. Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.
