Professionals with experience and a passion for teaching at the undergraduate level will be given preference. Part-time adjunct faculty may instruct 1 or 2 courses each semester on an “as needed” basis. Courses available for adjunct staffing are offered during the day and also in the evening. Courses available for adjunct staffing may include: Non-Major lecture and/or lab introductory courses in environmental science, major-level courses including, but not limited to, Environmental Assessment and Risk Management, Environmental Microbiology, Environmental Law, Environmental Toxicology. A teacher for the first-year seminar on Climate Change is also urgently sought. With a commitment to personalized attention through a low faculty to student ratio, SJU may call on the expertise of adjunct instructors to complement the work of full-time faculty across all of its colleges and schools.\nSJU appoints part-time, non-tenure track adjunct instructors on a semester-to-semester basis with no guarantee of consecutive appointments. Re-appointment is based on university need, student enrollment, and satisfactory performance. Applicants for these positions are screened on an as-needed basis throughout the academic year. Compensation for adjunct instructors is commensurate with educational credentials, professional, experience and instructional background. More information about SJU’s academic programs is available online at: www.sju.edu/degree-programs.\nEssential Duties/Responsibilities:\nProvide support and guidance to students\n\nInstruct an assigned course providing syllabi and other instructional materials\n\nUse of university learning management systems to deliver instruction\n\nTeaching a specified course\n\nPreparation of materials\n\nReporting grades\n\nKeeping posted office hours (1 hr per course)\n\nGiving prompt, regular feedback to students about their academic performance\n\nReporting mid-semester and final grades electronically\n\nSecondary Responsibilities:\nCooperating with course coordinators or other program faculty to assure quality and consistency across the program. Cooperating in program assessments\n\nMinimum Qualification:\nMaster’s Degree in an area of Biology, Environmental Science,or closely related major.\n\nPreferred Qualification:\nABDor PhD in an area of Biology or Environmental Science.
