Salem College is the nation’s only liberal arts college exclusively dedicated to developing the next generation of health leaders.\nJob Summary:\nThe Mathematics adjunct instructor teaches up to two courses in the Mathematics program, preparing and delivering in-person learning activities designed to achieve course outcomes. Specifically, this position is needed to teach one or both of the following courses during the Spring 2027 semester:\nElementary Functions and Graphs - a pre-calculus course that includes trigonometry - scheduled for Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays 3:00 - 4:15 pm;\nFinite Mathematics - a course that introduces quantitative topics that are beneficial to liberal arts students, including the mathematics of finance, introductory statistics, and elementary probability - scheduled for Tuesdays and Thursdays 3:00 - 4:15 pm. \nThe adjunct will develop course materials including a syllabus, homework assignments, and content for the Course Management System (CMS). They will evaluate and grade students’ class work, online work, assignments, and examinations and hold a minimum of two regularly-scheduled office hours per week throughout the semester. They must maintain and submit student attendance records, grades, and other required documentation by specified deadlines, as well as prepare and maintain course materials within the Salem College CMS and communicate with enrolled students through a Salem email account. Additionally, they will participate in periodic meetings with one or more members of the Mathematics program faculty.\nEssential Duties and Responsibilities\nTeaches one or two coursesin the Mathematics program\nPrepares and delivers in-person learning activities in order to achieve course outcomes\nPrepares course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments, and material for Course Management System (CMS)\nEvaluates and grades students’ class work, online work, assignments, and examinations\nHolds a minimum of two regularly-scheduled office hours per week of classes throughout the semester\nMaintains and submits student attendance records, grades and other required documentation by specified deadlines\nPrepares and maintains course material on the Salem College CMS\nCommunicates with enrolled students through the use of a Salem email account \nParticipates in periodic meetings with one or more members of the Mathematics program faculty\nQualifications\nQualifications\nRequired Qualifications\nMaster’s degree or higher in Mathematics or a related discipline with at least 18 graduate-level course hours in mathematics or related disciplines \nExcellent communication (verbal, written and interpersonal) and organizational skills\nSensitivity to respond appropriately to the needs of the community\nPreferred Qualifications\nPrior experience teaching classes in Mathematics at the undergraduate or graduate level as instructor of record\nExperience in instructional technology\nDemonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, or equivalent\nPhysical Functions\nWhile performing the responsibilities of the course instructor, the employee is required to sit for varying lengths of time; bend, reach, lift, push, and pull up to 25 pounds; occasionally stand and walk; use hands and fingers to handle or feel and manipulate keys on a keyboard; perform extended periods of work at a computer workstation and view a computer monitor;
