As a faith- and values-based organization, we hire and serve people of all backgrounds and walks of life - there is a place for everyone to belong here.\nMission Statement\nThe Salvation Army exists to share the love of Jesus Christ, meet human needs and be a transforming influence in the communities of our world.\nJob Description:\nPosition Purpose summary:\nThe Thrift Store Associate provides service to customers, sorts incoming products and assists the Manager in the maintenance of all store operations.\nKEY Accountabilities:\nWillingness to work within the mission, vision & values of The Salvation Army\nUse a client-centered approach by consistently demonstrating compassion, respect and empathy\nContributes to meeting store sales budgets by maintaining customer service standards,\nImplements store layout plans to attract customers including merchandise displays; ensures attractiveness of the store through “Tidy Maintenance,”\nReplenishes inventory levels based on Managers directions\nProcesses donated household items by unloading, sorting, packing, storing and loading donated items\nSorts donated clothing by judging the condition of the items\nRoutes donated items to the appropriate destination (store distribution, recycling, rag out, trash)\nHang and price good condition clothing,\nContributes to the control of inventory by retrieving, sorting, and pricing as per directions; protects the store from inventory shrinkage by close visual monitoring,\nTakes responsibility for the accurate completion of all customer transactions including visa, debit, etc.\nContributes to the safety of staff and customers (e.g. snow removal, clear fire exits, no obstacles inside/outside store, cleans spillage and maintains store cleanliness)\nAttends staff meetings\nPerforms other duties as assigned.\nHealth & Safety:\nThe job incumbent may be exposed to the risk of moderate to severe injury or illnesses due to:\nPhysical attacks by others\nExposure to infectious diseases\nExposure to toxic chemicals (e.g. toxic spills)\nMoving objects\nSharp objects (e.g. needle pricks)\nElectrical hazards\nRepetitive strain injuries (e.g. back, wrist)\nWorking Conditions:\nThe incumbent will work under the following disagreeable conditions:\nHandle garbage\nIsolation and monotony\nOdours\nDealing with angry people\nVerbal abuse\nExposure to toxic chemicals\nVarious weather conditions\nCHANGE ROOM garbage WHICH MAY INCLUDE HUMAN WASTE\nThe above responsibilities must be discharged in accordance with The Salvation Army’s Mission Statement, in a professional manner, upholding our code of conduct.\nEducation and Experience Qualifications:\nThe successful job applicant will have completed Public School, and/or High School.\nExperience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements\nMore than three months but less than one year of prior related experience, including life skills, and general familiarity with customer service and cash handling.\nSkills and Capabilities\nHigh attention and accuracy when operating Squirrel Till \nHeavy lifting: able to life up to 25 pounds regularly\nAbility to stand for long periods\nUniversal precautions.\nAbility and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening.\nCompensation:\nThe target hiring range for this position is $18.25 to $21.04 with a maximum of $23.82.Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.\nThe Salvation Army will provide reasonable accommodation upon request.
