About the role:

Are you a platform engineer who wants to build the foundation that lets an entire growth product engineering organization move faster? At Samsara, we are looking for a Senior Platform Engineer to join Growth Product & Engineering and own the platform our growth and marketing teams build on. As we push toward AI-assisted and agentic development, our velocity is increasingly bottlenecked not by feature work but by foundational gaps in infrastructure, security, and tooling. These initiatives cut across every team, but no single person owns them today. You will.

This is a hands-on, high-leverage role. You will design the hardened CI/CD pipeline that makes agent-written code safe to ship, migrate hand-built AWS resources to Infrastructure as Code, isolate production and pre-production workloads into properly separated accounts, centralize logging and monitoring, and give every engineer a paved path to self-service infrastructure. Our stack includes Python, JavaScript (Vue), AWS, and GitHub Actions (workflow) API with a growing surface of serverless and container based services and internally hosted applications.

The core principle behind this work: when a human writes a PR, the human is the safety net; when an AI agent writes a PR, the pipeline is the safety net. Raising that bar is the prerequisite for scaling AI-assisted development safely, and it is the single highest-leverage investment we can make in engineering velocity. In this role, you will:  

• Own the CI/CD foundation for AI-assisted and agentic development: hardened pipeline gates, high test coverage, mutation and end-to-end tests, blocking security scans, performance and cost regression guards, and progressive delivery with automated rollback.
• Give engineers a fast, safe inner loop with ephemeral per-PR environments and local tooling, including isolated databases seeded from realistic data.
• Build centralized logging, monitoring, and alerting across our AWS footprint so every team has visibility and bad deployments roll back automatically.
• Lead security engineering: remediate vulnerabilities, establish secure-by-default patterns, and automate code scanning, secrets management, and access control.
• Migrate hand-built AWS resources to Infrastructure as Code, separate production and pre-production accounts, and stand up tested backup and disaster recovery with clear RTO and RPO targets.
• Build paved-path, self-service tooling and standardized blue/green, canary, and feature-flag releases, while mentoring engineers and role modeling Samsara’s cultural principles as we scale.
• Build and operate AI agents for SRE work: automated alert triage, incident investigation, and safe self-healing remediation, so on-call toil drops as our service footprint grows.
• Contribute to backend development for products: assist with backend cloud services product work, shipping customer-facing features alongside the platform, not just internal tooling.

Minimum requirements for the role:

• 6+ years of professional software, infrastructure, DevOps, platform, or site reliability engineering experience.
• Hands-on AWS production experience (IAM, Lambda, networking, and multi-account organizations) with Infrastructure as Code such as Terraform, AWS CDK, or CloudFormation.
• Designed and operated CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, buildkite) with automated testing, static analysis, coverage enforcement, and deployment gates, plus safe release patterns such as blue/green, canary, feature flags, and reliable rollbacks. We use GitHub Actions workflows for CI/CD.
• Strong Python development experience across services, tooling, and automation, working familiarity with JavaScript-based stacks, and experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker with ECS, EKS, or Kubernetes).
• Cloud security posture management (CSPM) or our tools like Wiz, semgrep, synk, etc.
• Experience building observability into distributed systems: centralized logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting (for example Sentry, Datadog, CloudWatch, or Grafana).
• Track record of designing, building, and operating production infrastructure end to end with measurable gains in reliability, security, or developer velocity, using AI-powered development tools (for example Claude, Cursor, Codex, or Copilot) in a daily workflow.
• Experience with product and feature development: building and shipping customer-facing product features, not just internal platform and infrastructure work.

An ideal candidate also has:

• Experience building the guardrails that make AI or agent-generated code safe to merge and deploy: mutation testing, coverage enforcement, ephemeral preview environments, or automated rollback.
• A developer experience or platform engineering background, with a track record of paved-path tooling that other engineers actually adopt.
• Familiarity with cloud cost management, performance regression detection, capacity planning, and disaster recovery plans rehearsed against measured RTO and RPO targets.
• Exposure to localization pipelines and to GTM or data tooling such as Salesforce, Contentful, Hightouch, or Databricks, plus an experiment-driven approach to adopting emerging AI technologies.
• Experience with Service Level Indicators (SLIs) and Service Level Objectives (SLOs) as the foundation for observability in our system.
• Own our operational review process and always look for ways to make it better. 

The range of annual base salary for full-time employees for this position is below. Please note that base pay offered may vary depending on factors including your city of residence, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This role is also eligible for an initial RSU grant with no vesting cliff, and ongoing refresh opportunities tied to performance, subject to plan terms and conditions.
