A quantitative degree, a head for numbers, and a Brussels company where the calculations are the product.
Data Specialist | Brussels-Centre
Our client is an independent Belgian company active in specialised financial services, whose entire business rests on complex calculation models applied to long-term commitments.
What makes it stand out? A human-sized structure with the backing of a large group: entrepreneurial pace, short decision lines, and real proximity to the people who decide.
Its platforms are built and maintained in-house. Calculation engines, projections and regulatory reporting all run on proprietary applications, where the mathematical accuracy of the output comes before everything else.
To support its growth, the company is looking for a profile that combines quantitative work with business analysis, to help improve its internal systems.
The job
- Analyse the calculation rules and data behind the in-house applications, and turn what you find into concrete improvements to those systems.
- Act as a bridge between the business teams and the developers, translating quantitative needs into something that can be built.
- Model and test calculation rules, including edge cases, thresholds and exceptions, and identify where the systems can be improved.
- Verify the results produced by the applications: independent recalculations, consistency checks and investigation of discrepancies.
- Gather and challenge business needs, translate them into clear functional requirements, and take part in testing and validating what is delivered.
- Document the models, assumptions and implementation choices made.
- Master’s degree in a strongly quantitative field: mathematics, statistics, actuarial science, physics, civil engineering or equivalent. This is a firm requirement.
- Around 2 to 3 years of experience in a quantitative, analytical or business analysis role. Strong command of Excel is essential; knowledge of SQL, Python, R or VBA is an asset.
- French or Dutch with a basic knowledge of the other; English is a plus.
