SanDisk is an American flash memory company that was founded in 1988, acquired by Western Digital in 2016, and separated again as an independent listed company in early 2025. It designs and manufactures NAND flash memory through its long-running joint venture with Kioxia in Japan, and sells that memory as enterprise and client solid state drives, memory cards, USB drives and portable storage under the SanDisk and WD_BLACK brands. Headquartered in Milpitas and listed on Nasdaq, its results swing sharply with the memory pricing cycle, which turned strongly in its favour during the storage shortage of the mid 2020s.
