If you are a current employee, you must apply using the Workday Jobs Hub which can be found in the navigation menu on the left side of the screen when you log into Workday.\nDepartment:\nEMS/Fire OpsPay:\n$19.68-$19.68Close Date:\nJob Description:\nGENERAL PURPOSE: Under basic supervision, functions as a member of Sandoval County Fire and Rescue (SCFR) firefighting team by performing skilled work in fire suppression, emergency medical services, life support, and rescue operations; maintains technical certifications as Firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician- Intermediate (EMT-I); maintains required licensure; provides patient care within the scope of Sandoval County protocols and operates within scope of EMT-I licensure; and performs other related duties as assigned/ required.\nMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:\nEducation and Experience:\nHigh School Diploma/GED Certificate from an accredited institution. Associate's Degree in Fire Science, Emergency Medical Services, or related field is preferred. Prior experience in the firefighting or EMS field(s) is preferred.\nEligible candidates with current full-time employment and two years of experience as a structural firefighter in an all-hazards agency responsible for residential and commercial fire responses as well as EMS, AND candid\nates who have completed a new hire academy and hold current certification as an IFSAC or ProBoard Firefighter II may be considered LATERAL, and given preference, and may have reduced New Hire Academy training requirements and duration.\nRequired Licenses or Certifications:\nEmergency Medical Technician-Intermediate (EMT-I) License from New Mexico Emergency Medical Systems (NMEMS).\nNational registry will be accepted at time of application but candidate must obtain reciprocity through the New Mexico EMS Bureau prior to the completion of the fire department’s New Hire Academy\nValid New Mexico driver’s license.\nAdditional Licenses or Certifications required within thirty (30) days of hire:\nMust obtain New Mexico Class E license prior to the completion of the fire department’s New Hire Academy\nAdditional Licenses or Certifications required within six (6) months of hire:\nCertification as a Firefighter II from New Mexico Firefighters Training Academy, or other International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) accredited training.\nEmergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) Certificate or equivalent \nWild Land Firefighting Certification (S130/190)\nOperations Level Hazmat Certification\nVehicle Extrication Certification\nOther Requirements:\nSuccessful completion of the following:Sandoval County Fire Department EMT-Intermediate test with a score of 80% or higher;\nOSHA 202 Physical and DOT screening\nSandoval County Firefighter physical capacity/agility test; and a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening;\nBackground check as required\nSuccessful completion of an annual physical capacity/agility test and OSHA 202 physical.\n\nThis is a safety- sensitive position subject to random drug testing in accordance with County policy Article XIII Drug and Alcohol Policy and Testing-Drug Free Workplace of the Sandoval County Personnel Rules and Regulation.\nThis position is subject to random alcohol and drug testing in accordance with 49CFR.382.\nSUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:\nPosition reports to the Fire Chief or their designee, and does not exercise supervision over lower level staff.\nESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. relays orders, instructions and information on emergency actions, and follows orders under stressful conditions.\nWork requires the safe operation of county emergency and/or passenger vehicles, as necessary.\nPerforms assigned duties within scope of authority and training, and according to SCFR policies and procedures; duties may vary according to job assignment and skill level.\nFunctioning in an immediate danger to life and health (IDLH) environment, ventilates and enters burning structures to extinguish fires and rescue victims; responds to and mitigates hazardous materials incidents.\nOperates emergency, fire, rescue, medical, and life saving tools and equipment; ventilates and enters burning structures to extinguish fires and rescue victims.\nInspects, cleans, and maintains a variety of equipment, tools, and apparatus; assures that all emergency response equipment is in a proper state of readiness and available for immediate use.\nPerforms station maintenance; maintains station living quarters in clean and orderly condition; operates, inspects and maintains ambulance and other fire equipment; performs minor repairs on apparatus and equipment inside and outside of facilities; orders replacement supplies as needed.\nAssesses, treats, stabilizes, and transports patients according to SCFR medical protocol and level of emergency medical certification/licensure; restocks medical supplies.\nInspects, tests, evaluates, cleans, and repairs equipment after use; notifies supervisors of equipment problems beyond the scope of skills and training.\nParticipates in classes, drills, and training to maintain and upgrade fire fighting, rescue, and emergency medical skills; prepares reports, and maintains SCFR records and work logs.\nContinuously updates knowledge of regional traffic patterns, roads, landmarks, building locations, and special hazards of designated facilities, to assure that emergency services are provided in a fast, effective and safe manner.\nAssists and coordinates with law enforcement personnel and other first responders as required.\nUses various County Fire/EMS vehicles.\nPerforms other related duties as assigned or required.\nRequired Knowledge of:\nCounty policies and procedures.\nFire Department General Orders, Code of Conduct, policies and procedures.\nNational, State and County laws, regulations, practices and procedures governing emergency services.\nMethods, practices and procedures for fire prevention, fire suppression, hazardous material responses, emergency medical services, and rescue operations.\nProcedures and equipment used in modern fire fighting and emergency medical response.\nRequirements and provisions for EMT-I scope of licensure.\nOperational characteristics of fire suppression apparatus and equipment.\nCounty geography, traffic patterns, and the location of all streets, roads, landmarks and buildings.\nSafe work practices, occupational hazards, and safety precautions.\nRequired Skill in:\nRemaining alert at all times and reacting quickly and calmly in emergency situations.\nProviding firefighting, rescue, and medical services under emergency conditions.\nAssessing emergency medical needs, stabilizing patient, and providing emergency medical care.\nMaintaining and repairing firefighting vehicles, facilities and equipment.\nEstablishing and maintaining effective working relationships with co-workers.\nInteracting with people of different social, economic, and ethnic backgrounds.\nPreparing clear, comprehensive, and accurate reports.\nEffectively communicating in written and verbal forms, and following instructions and procedures.\nUtilizing computers with standard and specialized software programs for assigned work.\nPhysical Demands / Work Environment:\nWork is performed in SCFR facilities, and indoors and outdoors in the field for on-scene response to emergency situations.\nWork requires the safe operation of county emergency and/or passenger vehicles, as necessary.\nWork requires wearing of Self Contained Breathing Apparatus for extended periods of time, and climbing, lifting, carrying and transporting equipment and individuals weighing up to 200 pounds.\nWork requires visual and hearing acuity sufficient to perform essential and supplemental duties; to differentiate sounds (voice, horn); and to safely act in emergency situations.\nWork may involve exposure to extreme weather conditions, extreme heat, unstable structures, environmental allergens, gases, fumes, hazardous materials, emergency situations, body fluids, infectious diseases and pathogens; and potential physical harm.\nWork involves intense concentration and the ability to focus on multiple activities going on around one’s location during emergencies.\nEssential and supplemental functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting, walking or standing for prolonged periods of time, and stooping or bending.\nWork frequently involves extended periods of time viewing a computer monitor and operating a keyboard.\nWork regularly requires speaking, hearing and utilizing a radio, phone, or cell phone;
