We are currently looking for an energetic Product Manager with strong leadership skills and excellent product management credentials. This is a great opportunity for you to become part of our product management team.

We are looking for an experienced Product Manager to lead our product portfolio for our machine automation. BU Automation’s home is in Tampere, Finland and we work closely together with our Sandvik Mining sales areas to serve our customers. Automation BU is developing fully automated and robotic mining technologies for mobile machinery, including machine vision, machine learning and artificial intelligence with an aim to revolutionize the underground and surface mining industry. This is a permanent, full-time position based in Tampere or Turku, Finland and reports directly to the Head of Automation Product Line.

About the job

In this role, you will be the owner of BU Automation machine automation. You are responsible for defining the product requirements and overseeing the product development. Our machine automation consists of a comprehensive suite of machines including underground trucks and loaders both battery and diesel along with integrating underground drills into the AutoMine offering. You will be driving product development needs, plans and priorities regarding the offering.

We expect that you will perform your duties with a high degree of independence, initiative and judgment. This role includes up to 40% domestic and international travel to visit customers and mines, as well as:

  • Create and maintain product vision and strategy including the product roadmap and ensure alignment with current product offering
  • Product development supervision and sponsoring according to product development process definitions (internal customer to R&D and Engineering function)
  • Defining product requirements to meet customer needs and business objectives
  • Ensure and improve alignment with equipment divisions and development roadmaps
  • Ensuring all required product related documentation is created and available
  • Revising and maintaining the commercial model of the offering
  • Monitoring of competition and industry trends and creating supporting material for sales teams
  • Direct involvement in selected sales support activities
  • Participation and coordination of various customer events and promotions
  • Create and maintain product vision and strategy including the product roadmap and ensure alignment with current product offering
  • Work with external customers, project delivery and sales support teams to analyze the needs and business values. Work closely with R&D to transfer these requirements into product to meet business objectives

Your background and what we find important

We are looking for a person with the key skills such as leadership and charisma. You will need to be passionate to lead and to take a proactive approach in “getting things done” while maintaining good team collaboration with internal and external stakeholders. The ideal applicant meets the following requirements:

  • University Degree in engineering, software or related field
  • At least five years of experience in mining and/or similar industry space or alternatively and in automation/ICT/software industry
  • Experience with underground and surface mining applications and mine planning experience is seen as advantage
  • Experience with large scale software systems for industrial production management
  • Product management, business development, or (product) engineering experience
  • Skills to analyse data from multiple viewpoints including market data, competitive offerings, and other information sources
  • Effective communication skills. In this role you must communicate with people from other areas of the company including top management, engineering, marketing, manufacturing, externals, and sales teams
  • Strong presentation, customer service, business, and negotiation skills
  • Skills to manage product release related activities including testing, preparing documentation, demos, and product launches
  • Develop and manage pricing strategies together with sales and pricing functions for different categories
  • Willingness to travel extensively and spend time at the mine sites
  • Ability to understand customers’ needs to provide a competitive advantage
  • Fluent in English (both written and verbally)
