The group manufactures equipment and tools for mining and rock excavation, rock processing, and metal cutting, including automation and electrification technologies. With a global presence in over 150 countries and a workforce of approximately 42,000 people, the company is listed on Nasdaq Stockholm and serves the manufacturing, mining, and infrastructure industries.

At Sandvik Coromant, our expertise in metal cutting meets a strong focus on innovation, digitalization, and engineering excellence. As we continue our transition to simulation-based product development, we're strengthening our capabilities in virtual methods and predictive engineering. Join our Cutting Tool Research team and help drive faster, smarter, and more knowledge-driven engineering decisions.

About the job

Through advanced analyses and virtual engineering, you evaluate and optimize new concepts and solutions early in the development process. Combining engineering expertise with strong analytical skills, you support informed design decisions, reducing the need for physical prototypes, and speeding up development cycles. Working closely with product developers, researchers, and technical specialists, you contribute to efficient processes, deeper product understanding, and high-performing solutions.

Job responsibilities

  • Apply simulation and virtual engineering methods to evaluate, compare and optimize product concepts and designs.
  • Support product development projects with simulation-based analyses, insights, and recommendations.
  • Collaborate with product developers, researchers, and technical specialists to solve engineering challenges and improve product performance.
  • Interpret results and communicate clear conclusions to project teams, stakeholders, and decision-makers.
  • Develop and validate simulation methodologies, workflows, and best practices.
  • Capture and share knowledge that strengthens simulation-driven product development across the organization.

This position is based in Sandviken. Some business travel may be required.

Your profile

You have a solid foundation in mechanical engineering and use simulation to understand, predict, and improve product performance. Your experience may come from industrial product development, engineering consulting, or a research environment. You’re motivated by combining engineering expertise, simulation tools, and analytical thinking to solve real-world engineering challenges.

Your background includes:

  • An M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Applied Mechanics or a related field.

  • A strong understanding of solid mechanics and structural behavior.
  • Experience supporting product development through engineering analyses and translating results into actionable design recommendations.
  • Experience with scientific programming, data analysis, or scripting using Python, AI or similar tools.
  • Fluency in English, while knowledge of Swedish is an advantage.

Curiosity and collaboration shape the way you work. You’re proactive, solution-focused, and comfortable taking initiative, while your clear communication helps colleagues from different disciplines turn data and analysis into better engineering decisions.
