Position Summary

The Total Rewards Manager is responsible for the hands-on day-to-day administration, delivery, and continuous improvement of compensation, benefits, and recognition programs that attract, retain, and engage employees across Skilled Nursing and Assisted Living operations. This is a highly hands-on, operational role that directly manages day-to-day Total Rewards activities, resolves employee and manager issues, maintains data and systems, and ensures programs are administered accurately, timely, and in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and organizational policies.

The Total Rewards Manager partners closely with HR, Finance, Talent Acquisition, Payroll, and senior leaders to ensure compensation and benefits programs are competitive, cost-effective, compliant, and aligned with organizational strategy, with a strong emphasis on compensation administration, benefits operations, data accuracy, analytics, and employee support.

Key Responsibilities

Compensation

  • Serve as the primary subject matter expert and day-to-day owner of compensation operations, providing hands-on support to HR Partners, Talent Acquisition, managers, and senior leaders.
  • Review and process compensation changes, including promotions, transfers, market adjustments, equity adjustments, new hire offers, internal moves, and other salary actions.
  • Analyze compensation data, internal equity, market trends, and external benchmarks to support compensation decisions and recommendations.
  • Conduct job evaluations, salary reviews, market benchmarking, and internal equity analysis.
  • Manage participation in compensation surveys and maintain accurate market pricing data.
  • Lead and administer the annual compensation planning and review cycle in ADP, including system configuration, testing, manager support, reporting, and troubleshooting.
  • Maintain salary structures, pay ranges, job classifications, compensation frameworks, policies, and related documentation.
  • Partner with Talent Acquisition and HR to review offers and ensure proposed compensation is consistent with internal equity, market data, and established guidelines.
  • Monitor compensation data for accuracy and identify and resolve discrepancies or inconsistencies.
  • Prepare compensation reports, analyses, and recommendations for HR and leadership.
  • Support union and non-union compensation administration, including interpretation and application of contractual pay provisions where applicable.

Benefits

  • Own the day-to-day administration and operational management of employee benefit programs,serving as a hands-on resource for employees, managers, HR, and leadership.
  • Process and oversee benefit eligibility, enrollment, qualifying life events, status changes, and benefit-related employee transactions.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex benefits issues, working directly with employees, vendors, carriers, Payroll, and HR to ensure timely resolution.
  • Manage annual benefits renewals, open enrollment, plan changes, system configuration, testing, communications, and implementation.
  • Monitor benefit deductions and eligibility data between HRIS, payroll, benefits systems, and external vendors to identify and correct discrepancies.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for benefit vendors and carriers, managing day-to-day vendor relationships and issue resolution.
  • Conduct benefits benchmarking, utilization analysis, cost analysis, and plan reviews to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Ensure benefits programs and processes comply with applicable federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Maintain accurate benefits documentation, policies, procedures, employee communications, and process guides.
  • Support audits, reconciliations, required filings, and compliance activities related to benefit programs.
  • Partner with Finance and Payroll on benefit costs, deductions, invoices, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Provide hands-on employee education and support regarding medical, dental, vision, retirement, HSA/FSA, commuter, leave, and other benefit programs.

Total Rewards Operations & Analytics

  • Manage the day-to-day operation of the Total Rewards function, ensuring employee requests, system transactions, vendor issues, and administrative tasks are completed accurately and within established timelines.
  • Maintain the integrity and accuracy of Total Rewards data within ADP and other applicable HR systems.
  • Develop and maintain recurring reports, dashboards, audits, and metrics related to compensation and benefits.
  • Identify process gaps and implement improvements that increase efficiency, accuracy, compliance, and employee experience.
  • Create and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), process documentation, and internal controls for Total Rewards activities.
  • Partner with HRIS/HR Operations to test system changes, troubleshoot issues, and improve automated workflows.
  • Provide responsive day-to-day consultation and problem-solving to employees, managers, HR leadership, Finance, Payroll, and other internal stakeholders.
  • Maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive compensation and employee benefits information.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field required; advanced degree preferred.
  • 6-8+ years of experience in compensation and benefits, including at least 4 years in a leadership role.
  • Deep knowledge of total rewards best practices, compensation design, compliance, and market trends.
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, formulas, lookups; macros a plus).
  • Experience with HRIS platforms; ADP Workforce Now preferred.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder communication skills.
