About the Job

The Manager, Visual Inspection Operations provides hands-on leadership and strategic oversight of visual inspection operations within a regulated vaccine manufacturing environment. This role is accountable for safety, quality, delivery, cost, and people performance while fostering a culture of ownership, compliance, and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate is an experienced visual inspection leader who sets clear expectations, holds teams accountable to defined standards, and drives measurable performance improvements. This individual brings strong technical knowledge of manual and automated inspection processes and leverages industry best practices to strengthen systems, elevate inspector capability, and enhance operational efficiency.

This leader serves as a change agent-developing talent, improving processes, reinforcing right-first-time execution, and elevating inspection excellence across the shift.

Main Responsibilities

Safety:

• Follows all procedures put into effect to ensure your safety as well as the safety of others. Participates in monthly safety meetings.
• Reports all safety issues, concerns, incidents and near misses to the team leadership.
• Actively participates in safety walkthroughs coordinated by the department’s safety team.
• Provides input for potential safety issues as well as contributing ideas for corrective and preventative actions.
• Follows effective procedures to ensure the production of a safe and efficacious product.
• Utilizes +QDCI boards for Safety issues
• Leads Safety Meetings.

Quality:

• FDA audit understanding and awareness. Ensures areas are always following proper procedures
• Identifies possible deviation occurrences and prevents or aids in investigations and root cause analysis.
• Ensure compliance with cGMP, FDA, EU Annex 1, and regulatory requirements.
• Review batch records and inspection documentation for accuracy and completeness.
• Lead preliminary deviation investigations and support root cause analysis.
• Support internal and external audits and regulatory inspections.
• Maintain inspection standards and ensure audit readiness.

Delivery:

• Performs production in accordance with volume fluctuation, business need, and effective procedures.
• Must be flexible to ensure staffing for changing business volume and needs
• Lead visual inspection operations during 2nd shift.
• Establish clear expectations and drive accountability across the team.

Cost:

• Executes procedure as documented to avoid deviations.
• Oversee production planning and scheduling to meet throughput and quality targets.
• Drive efficiency improvements, waste reduction, and process optimization initiatives.
• Implement best practices from industry benchmarking and prior experience.
• Lead or support automation initiatives for visual inspection systems.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Quality, Engineering, and Supply Chain.

Involvement:

• Has a thorough working knowledge of cGMP’s and works to help others understand.
• Lead in Shift Change.
• Maintains acceptable training as described in key requirements.
• Coach, develop, and mentor inspectors and frontline leaders.
• Manage recruitment, onboarding, training, and performance management.
• Foster a culture of engagement, ownership, and continuous improvement.
• All other duties as assigned.

About You

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in any field, OR 5 years of equivalent experience in pharmaceutical operations.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in pharmaceutical or biologics manufacturing
• Minimum 2 years of team leadership experience (managing direct reports)
• Strong knowledge of cGMP requirements and quality systems.
• Demonstrated ability to drive accountability and performance improvement.
• Experience leading root cause investigations and implementing corrective actions

Preferred Qualifications

• Direct visual inspection experience in a GMP-regulated environment
• Experience with manual and automated inspection processes
• Experience in high-volume manufacturing operations
