Performs emergency care as necessary. Performs pool maintenance duties. Assists the Chief Pool Lifeguard in pool operation activities, as required.\nRepresentative Duties\nAssists with coordinating various aquatic activities.\nEnforces swimming pool rules and regulations. Maintains order in and around the pool.\nRecognizes and performs aquatic emergency rescues, administers artificial respiration, CPR, and first aid, when necessary.\nKeeps pool, decks, and dressing rooms safe, clean and orderly.\nPerforms minor facility clean up and maintenance.\nCompletes various forms and paperwork pertinent to the day-to-day operation of an aquatic facility.\nCompletes chemical checks of the pool water.\nFollows and enforces all applicable safety rules and regulations.\nPerforms other duties, as assigned.\nRequirements\nKnowledge of:\nWater safety practices.\nEffective customer service techniques.\nAbility to:\nPerform lifesaving techniques.\nRespond and handle emergency incidents in an appropriate manner.\nEstablish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with City employees and the public.\nSwim with proficiency and endurance.\nProvide effective customer service.\nSkill in:\nLifeguarding, first aid and CPR techniques.\nReading, writing and communicating in English at an appropriate level.\nBasic computer operations with applicable software.\nEducation, Training and Experience:\nCurrently enrolled in high school or the equivalent.\nLicenses and Certificates:\nPossession of a valid American Red Cross or state recognized certificate in the following: CPR for the Professional Rescuer (or American Heart Association Healthcare Provider),Lifeguard TrainingFirst Aid for Public Safety Personnel (Title 22) within 6 months of hire. The City of Santa Monica provides a deferred compensation (457) retirement plan for its as-needed (temporary) employees who are not eligible for coverage under the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS). The City and as-needed employee are each required to contribute 3.75% of wages to the deferred compensation plan.
