This role establishes the measurement standards, control points, and engineering processes that allow ship blocks and modules to fit together reliably during construction.\nShipbuilding relies on the precise alignment of extremely large structural assemblies. The Accuracy Control Engineer ensures that dimensional tolerances are controlled from plate cutting through final block erection, enabling repeatable modular production while minimizing rework and fit-up issues.\nThis role works closely with production engineering, welding engineering, quality assurance, and ship design teams to establish the shipyard’s accuracy control program, including measurement systems, alignment procedures, and dimensional verification processes.\nResponsibilities:\nDimensional Control Program Development\nEstablish the shipyard’s accuracy control program governing dimensional tolerances throughout fabrication and assembly.\n\nDefine measurement standards and control processes for panels, subassemblies, blocks, and erected structures.\n\nDevelop dimensional control procedures that support modular ship construction.\n\nMeasurement Systems & Metrology\nImplement measurement systems used to verify structural alignment and geometry.\n\nUtilize advanced metrology technologies such as laser scanning, total stations, and digital measurement tools.\n\nDevelop methods for tracking dimensional variation throughout the production process.\n\nProduction Integration\nWork closely with fabrication and assembly teams to ensure dimensional accuracy during panel line production, sub-assembly, block construction, and hull erection.\n\nEstablish alignment procedures for block fit-up and erection.\n\nSupport production teams in resolving dimensional conflicts during assembly.\n\nTolerance Development\nDefine allowable tolerances for structural components and assemblies.\n\nEnsure tolerances support efficient welding, assembly, and fit-up processes.\n\nCoordinate tolerance standards with naval architects and structural engineers.\n\nRoot Cause Analysis\nInvestigate dimensional discrepancies that lead to fit-up issues or rework.\n\nIdentify process improvements to reduce dimensional variation.\n\nImplement corrective actions to prevent recurring alignment issues.\n\nDigital Integration\nSupport integration of dimensional control into digital ship models and production systems.\n\nDevelop processes to compare as-built measurements with design models.\n\nSupport development of digital twins and production simulation models.\n\nCross-Functional Collaboration\nCoordinate with welding engineering to understand distortion effects.\n\nWork with quality assurance to establish dimensional inspection procedures.\n\nSupport production engineering in developing modular construction strategies.\n\nWhat Success Looks Like\nShip blocks and modules consistently align during assembly and erection.\n\nDimensional rework is minimized across fabrication and block assembly.\n\nMeasurement systems provide reliable verification of structural geometry.\n\nModular construction processes operate predictably and efficiently.\n\nProduction teams trust and rely on the dimensional control system.\n\nQualifications:\nRequired\nBachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical discipline.\n\nUnderstanding of dimensional control, metrology, or structural alignment in large-scale manufacturing or construction environments.\n\nExperience working with large fabricated structures, modular assemblies, or industrial production systems.\n\nAbility to interpret engineering drawings and structural models.\n\nStrong analytical and problem-solving skills related to structural tolerances and dimensional accuracy.\n\nPreferred\nExperience in shipbuilding, offshore fabrication, heavy manufacturing, or large modular construction environments.\n\nExperience using industrial metrology technologies such as laser scanning, total stations, photogrammetry, or digital measurement systems.\n\nFamiliarity with dimensional control programs used in shipyards or large fabrication environments.\n\nExperience analyzing welding distortion and structural deformation during fabrication.\n\nExperience integrating dimensional control with digital models, digital twins, or production simulation tools.\n\nBenefits:\nMedical Insurance: Comprehensive health insurance plans covering a range of services\nSaronic pays 100% of the premium for employees and 80% for dependents\nDental and Vision Insurance: Coverage for routine dental check-ups, orthodontics, and vision care\nSaronic pays 100% of the premium under the basic plan for employees and 80% for dependents\nTime Off: Generous PTO and Holidays\nParental Leave: Paid maternity and paternity leave to support new parents\nCompetitive Salary: Industry-standard salaries with opportunities for performance-based bonuses\nRetirement Plan: 401(k) plan with company match\nStock Options: Equity options to give employees a stake in the company’s success\nLife and Disability Insurance: Basic life insurance and short- and long-term disability coverage\nPet Insurance: Discounted pet insurance options including 24/7 Telehealth helpline\nAdditional Perks: Free lunch benefit and unlimited free drinks and snacks in the office\nSaronic CCPA Notice for Candidates and California Employees\nIf this role is based in the United States, it requires access to export-controlled information or items
