This role is responsible for defining the build strategy, developing production processes, and ensuring that vessel designs are compatible with facility capabilities.\nThe Production Engineering Manager serves as the technical bridge between engineering, manufacturing, and facilities, translating ship designs into efficient and executable production plans. This includes defining block construction strategy, heavy lift and transport engineering, and establishing the production rules that govern how vessels are built within the shipyard.\nA critical component of the role is developing and maintaining the Facilities Production Manual, which provides engineering teams with the design constraints and manufacturing rules required to ensure that vessel designs can be efficiently produced within Port Alpha’s facilities.\nResponsibilities\nProduction Build Strategy\nDefine and maintain the shipyard’s production build strategy, including panelization, block construction, and erection sequencing.\n\nDevelop block breakdown structures and manufacturing strategies aligned with facility capabilities.\n\nEnsure vessel designs align with yard constraints such as crane capacities, transportation limits, and assembly workflows.\n\nHeavy Lift & Transport Engineering\nDevelop engineering strategies for lifting, transporting, and erecting ship blocks and major modules.\n\nDefine lift plans, rigging concepts, and transport methods for large assemblies.\n\nCoordinate with heavy lift equipment operators and infrastructure teams to validate lifting and movement strategies.\n\nProduction Process Development\nDevelop standardized manufacturing processes for steel fabrication, block assembly, and erection.\n\nEstablish production workflows, takt planning concepts, and throughput assumptions.\n\nIdentify opportunities for automation and process optimization within shipyard operations.\n\nFacilities Production Manual\nLead development of the Facilities Production Manual, establishing design rules for engineering teams.\n\nDefine constraints including maximum block weights, dimensions, lifting interfaces, transport paths, and production tolerances.\n\nEnsure naval architects and vessel design teams incorporate facility manufacturing requirements early in the design process.\n\nManufacturing Integration\nWork closely with ship design teams to ensure production feasibility.\n\nTranslate vessel design into manufacturing work packages and build sequences.\n\nSupport development of digital models and production simulations.\n\nStartup & Industrialization\nSupport the startup of new shipyard facilities and manufacturing systems.\n\nValidate production processes during early vessel builds.\n\nCapture lessons learned and refine production engineering standards.\n\nCross-Functional Collaboration\nPartner with engineering, facilities, automation, and operations teams to align production systems.\n\nProvide production engineering input to equipment selection and facility design.\n\nSupport strategic planning for future production capacity expansion.\n\nWhat Success Looks Like\nVessel designs consistently align with shipyard manufacturing capabilities.\n\nBlock construction and erection sequences are clearly defined and executable.\n\nProduction processes are standardized and scalable.\n\nEngineering teams utilize the Facilities Production Manual as a core design reference.\n\nThe shipyard achieves predictable production flow during early vessel builds.\n\nQualifications\nRequired\n8+ years experience in shipbuilding, heavy manufacturing, or large-scale industrial production engineering.\n\nStrong experience developing build strategies for large fabricated structures.\n\nExperience with heavy lift engineering, rigging, or large assembly operations.\n\nDemonstrated ability to translate product design into manufacturing processes.\n\nStrong cross-functional collaboration with engineering and operations teams.\n\nPreferred\nShip Structural Design Experience experience.\n\nFamiliarity with panel line production and modular ship construction.\n\nExperience with digital production planning or simulation tools.\n\nBackground in lean manufacturing or industrial system design.\n\nPhysical Requirements\nProlonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer\n\nOccasional standing and walking within the office\n\nManual dexterity to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other office equipment\n\nVisual acuity to read screens, documents, and reports\n\nOccasional reaching, bending, or stooping to access file drawers, cabinets, or office supplies\n\nLifting and carrying items up to 20 pounds occasionally (e.g., office supplies, packages)\n\nBenefits:\nMedical Insurance: Comprehensive health insurance plans covering a range of services\nSaronic pays 100% of the premium for employees and 80% for dependents\nDental and Vision Insurance: Coverage for routine dental check-ups, orthodontics, and vision care\nSaronic pays 100% of the premium under the basic plan for employees and 80% for dependents\nTime Off: Generous PTO and Holidays\nParental Leave: Paid maternity and paternity leave to support new parents\nCompetitive Salary: Industry-standard salaries with opportunities for performance-based bonuses\nRetirement Plan: 401(k) plan with company match\nStock Options: Equity options to give employees a stake in the company’s success\nLife and Disability Insurance: Basic life insurance and short- and long-term disability coverage\nPet Insurance: Discounted pet insurance options including 24/7 Telehealth helpline\nAdditional Perks: Free lunch benefit and unlimited free drinks and snacks in the office\nSaronic CCPA Notice for Candidates and California Employees\nIf this role is based in the United States, it requires access to export-controlled
